I'm a Libertarian living in Humboldt County, CA. I've lived here in Eureka since 1973 and joined the Libertarian Party in 1992. This blog will mostly focus on local political issues, but I may stray into state and national issues as well, when I can't help myself. Humboldt Rose Society
Don't feel like commenting on any news items today. Instead, I'll just plug a new web site I noticed listed on Humguide. The Humboldt Rose Society has their web page listed now. Don't know how long they've had the page but this is the first I've heard of it. Lots of information there for the Humboldt gardening crowd.
Thank you for the link, Fred. And there is a plant sale Saturday in Eureka! I may stop by on my way back from the AAWU brunch in Trinidad.
ReplyDeleteWe just joined the Humboldt Botannical Gardens, as my 4H-er wants to be a volunteer.
I heard that roses like epsom salt sometimes. Do you grow roses?
We have a number of roses in out back yard. The wife started adding to them over the years and made it a big hobby of hers for a while. They're pretty much falling to neglect now, as the wife doesn't garden much even if she is around.
ReplyDeleteThey mention on that web site something about roses and epsom salt. It might have been in the FAQ section.
I used to put epsom salt in the soil under my tomatoes, back when I grew them. The magnesium was supposed to be beneficial, but I never noticed any difference with or without the epsom salt.
Last year I placed well-ripened bananas in the soil around my tomato plants, as it adds potassium.
ReplyDeleteDid it attract banana slugs?
ReplyDeleteI'll have to say, just like any gardener, I've tried all the tips and tricks, fertilizers and such. I honestly don't think I can say I saw any improvement in the plants with or without and of them.
ReplyDeleteI think it's more the weather and soil ph and other conditions that make the difference. Then again, I've never done side by side comparisons of one plant with something and the other without.
