Free Car Dumping
Now's the time to tell your friends or neighbors with those ugly old cars on their property that haven't been driven for years to get rid of them.
The Eureka Reporter has what appears to be a public service notice, not available online apparently, the the county has announced you can dump off those old cars at John's Used Cars and Auto Wreckers on Jacobs Avenue, just north of Eureka.
Even if you don't have the paperwork, the powers- that- be will take care of that for you. You just need to get the vehicle to the wrecking yard. Even if you can't get it there, it might be worth it to have it towed.
I think they usually charge $100 for cars to be dumped, although I drove my old truck in there a couple years ago and they took it without charging. No mention of any charges for this amnesty program.
They say only passenger cars, pick up trucks, vans and motorcycles will be accepted. No extra tires or garbage in the vehicles, please.
The amnesty program goes from January 2 (now they tell us) through February 15. They're open Monday thru Friday 9 to 4pm, Saturday from 9 to 2pm.
Any questions? Call 443-7065
Ok. You all have your marching orders. Let's get rid of all those old junk cars.

But I live in Rio Dell. If I get rid of Old Soupie, I gotta start paying the clean yard tax.
Obviously posted by an imposter who hasn't been to Rio Dell lately!
Is Fred a Old Car Nazi??
I suppose so, if they're cars that are just sitting there falling apart over the years they should be disposed of.
In Weitchpec they're known as "road/yard sculptures" and more often than not packed with household garbage
They've mentioned in the paper before it's like that everywhere; Cars become abandoned and people end up dumping trash in them. Then, the tow companies have to spend all kinds of money paying their drivers to take the cars to City Garbage to clean out the garbage before they can take them to the wrecking yard.
Whatever it takes. It really grinds me to no end when garbage is disposed of improperly. It would be nice to see an end to abandoned vehicles filled with garbage. Often they are parked with the garbage already in them. Great post, Fred!
What Fred is advocating is really a destruction of our ties to our own past. These vehicles often represent history. When you see that old vehicle, think of how many laughs it carried, how many birthing mothers it took to the hospital, how many Kennedy's nearly crashed it shitfaced. These things are like time capsules! I know Fred likes things that are new, but I fear he is forgetting a rich past embodied by what he only see's as rust!
Is that like carefree dumping?
Is that like carefree dumping?
Thanks for the post, Fred. I wish they'd been doing that when we had to dispose of our old Subaru; it cost $200 at John's at the time.
People leave cars full of junk on the peninsula all the time. A few years ago, someone parked a truck on the sand at Bay Street. It sat there and was eventually buried. I wonder if, because of all the erosion this year, if it's visible again.
I bet the old truck has Jimmy Hoffa in it.
Yeah , but you gotta pay for towing . It's the same old stuff . They are trying to make you believe this is something new . It's like Lavallee / Bass giving different names to all the half-way houses he keeps opening to further screw up Eureka . It's the same ole thing !
