Republican Gals To Look At Greens

Boy, this little announcement in the Eureka Reporter got me going:

Looks like the Eureka Women's Federation will be discussing the Green Party at their meeting on Thursday. One Holly Swanson, who has something to do with an Operation Green Out, is will be discussing something along the line of how to "get Green politics subjected to scrutiny and out of the country's schools.".

Just enough info there to have me dying of curiousity. I wonder if any of the local media will be covering the meeting? If not, any of you bloggers gonna be there?

As if pro-war, anti-health care Republicans know what is good for children.

More then the "Wish and Dreams" that have been coming out of the Green Party lately.

The GOP harpies are - without a doubt - the most clueless group of old bitties this side of Kansas. Is the earth still flat in their minds? Or, do they even have minds?

Oh please, Heraldo. If you were a real environmentalist, you would support destabilization of all health care. Fewer people = better planet. You're just not hardcore.

So what goes on at Humboldt Democrat meetings, Carol: Just a bunch of even sided movies on issues of the day?

The Humboldt Sentinel coverage of this should be quite informative.

Bet it's on Page 1.

What you all should do is go to the Rep. Womens lunch and check it out.Not just jump to uninformed assumptions. To anyone who thinks only one side is fair or balanced,I'd suggest you go to meetings of the many so called progressive groups,or the dunes forum,or the many other Enviro type groups and you might find as I did the most closed minded, self motivated, and resistant to other positions a group as anyone could imagine. This isn't absolutly every person in these groups but it most definatly the group dynamic. I was truly shocked and still after years or the boorish attitude I try to be open to the good things they might do in spite of their superority trip. You need to seek out all sides of a subject and then make up your own mind. You just might be surprised. Dennis Mayo

Dennis Mayo, I thought you were a lifelong democrat. Didn't I see and here you speak at the HCDCC? I see you are now on the republican central committee.

Oh, Fred, a lot goes on the HCDCC, you know that.

I REALLY considered going to the GOP ladies lunch to hear their speaker, but I have a work-related lunch appointment.

Who publishes the Humboldt Sentinel?

Yes that is correct. On a local basis I am not satified with what is now calling it's self a Dem Party. As everyone knows I try to look at issues on their own merrit, so called (issue by issue). I don't lock step to well to any party marching order's. As a new member of the Rep. party the group is very aware of my independant stance on many issues. As I have told them. if there were a true Dem. party that was like the party of my Dads that I first joined, I'd most likely still be there. Thats not the case. The Rep. party locally most closely reflects that older Dem. stance. However I will be participating in Dem Party meetings when and where ever I can, because I have many old friends who are still in the party that share my concerns. I hope you all can respect that. The lables and divisiveness and mean spiritedness is what I most object to. I will go and do what I feel will be best for my entire community. If anyone wants to critize me go ahesd. But first try as hard as I do,do something to be balanced, and try to treat your fellow citizen like a neighbor not some damn lable someones else came up for you. Issues transend parties and are generally pushed to be funding vehical's for self serving causes. I challenge everyone to support term limits for local offices, and to radically limit the money spent in local elections. If someone offers you 25,000 dollars have the guts to "just say no". Carol asked, "Who publishes the Humboldt Sentinel?".

Charles Douglas used to publish the Sentinel, online only. It's pretty much done for now as, last I looked, the web page hadn't been updated since June or July of last year.

Kind of a shame. A lot of his stuff was a fun read.

Dennis, what good are term limits when political zeros like Wes Chesbro can simply move from one position to another without a challenge? Term limits were a good idea, but these politicians have found a loophole.

Term limits don't work as advertised, do they? So, Dennis, you are anti-environment and anti-social services. Does this mean you're a Bush-voting warmonger, too?

First off, If you want to attack me ,give your name or you simply don't have a non-position to hide behind. 2nd. I walked door to door for prop20,and would do so again if the rightous politics and money/power positioning were taken out of todays equation. I was raising and selling organic beef since 1971,probably the first to custom slaughter for the original Co-op crowd. I have farmed organically my entire life and as a rep. on the enviromental and consumer affairs committe for Ca. State grange advocate endlessly for the organic movement. I have produced quality food in this community for 35 years. I recycle and reuse everything and have never owned a new car. I would guess my newest auto is about14 yrs old. You would be hard pressed to match my community envolvement that crosses every type of subject. As far as my stance on the Iraq war you are uninformed and a fool. Term limits will put an end to the fifedoms in local politics,it's time is at hand. What can I say about 117,000 dollar a year appointments. In my opinion its like the 25,000 dollar donations issue. Just say no. It will take time to right this floundering boat. But lets not continue to prop up a system that keeps reproducing its negitive self. From top to bottom if your in power you want to stay in power, thats a real reason for term limits,to move the power around. Thats just my opinion and I've got the guts to put my name to it. I see you didn't attack the money, perhaps you're just fine with it as long as your getting it! I guess my crime and the excuse for your ire is that you disagree with me. I'd hate to live under your rule. And you didn't have the guts to put your name to your foolish attack. Dennis Mayo

Though I agree with some things which Mr. Mayo stated ealier, I do not understand how term limits would help us out of our political quagmire. We have an opportunity to limit terms with every election.

The money is the problem, and it's not an simple one.

"Just say no"? That worked well in the War on Drugs. Dennis, you have probably been a Republican all along and just recently came out, that's all.

Fred, Great-Grandmother also told me that she didn't always vote down party-lines. I recall she voted for the p-nut farmer.

I don't get why anyone who criticizes the Hum Dem Ctr Commm is accused of being a republican all along. People who registered as dem and stayed dem and believed in the party. This is stupid 8:01

Carol, parties really are just what people make of them. The local party has the greater chance of some(some) sanity, although the opposte could also be true. Insanity! anyway my Dad is a Dem. and we are very similar creatures. My favorite aunt is a Rep. and we are also in tune most of the time. I would punch anyone in the nose that disparaged either of them for their political opinions. They are both exemplory citizens, really fun people to be aroung and honest to a fault. When we talk about issues we differ on--- we simply agree to disagree or most often try to study the others point a bit closer. Often we modify our position but always we are better informed. Point being you get out of things what you put into it. If a party has leaders with agendas ,good or bad, self agrandizing or benevolant thats the way the party will lean. I have to agree with my old cowboy grandpa most often though. He always said ,"give them politicans 2 terms." "One in office, one in prison". "The duration of the prison term should be porpotional to screwing the public got". Dennis Mayo
