Google Video Does Global Warming

Thanks to CLS, over at the Classically Liberal blog, for the heads up on this one: The Great Global Warming Swindle is now available on Google Video. That being the british documentary I mentioned here a short time ago which was billed as a counter to Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. Will any of the U.S. television networks run the show?

My guess is they won't, especially having seen something in the Times- Standard's Entertainment section the other day about An Inconvenient Truth going to be aired on one of the U.S. networks. Seems to me, it might have been the Discovery Channel that would be running it. I might be wrong on that, though.

Interesting, and actually somewhat frightening, to me that they'd release Gore's flick right after the airing of The Great Global Warming Swindle. Suspicious timing as I see it. Are we worried about an opposing view getting some attention?
*************
One thing that strikes me about this Global Warming issue is the zeal, or determination, with which the environmental movement is pushing man- caused global warming. Ooops...it's Climate Change now, isn't it?

I can't help but see a parallel between the man caused climate change campaign and the build up to the invasion of Iraq.

Back before we invaded Iraq, we were given all kinds of reasons for attacking Iraq, via the powers- that- be. There must have been a dozen arguments thrown out for attacking Iraq hoping that everyone would accept at least one of them. Arguments in opposition were either downplayed or ignored altogether.

Seems to me the same is happening with this Global Warming issue going all the way to the point where it's being renamed Climate CHANGE so just about any weather phenomena can be attributed to supposed human effect on climate.

I would think the zeal with which the Global Warming crowd is pushing the issue, it being along the same lines of our march to war with Iraq, should give even environmentalists cause for concern.

Global Warming is not a fad just made up by liberals. The massive scientific evidence and change of weather patterns should be enough of a concern. Katrina is an excellent example. I really get tired hearing about Iraq or other focuses which screw topics on animal and environmental issues. Ignorance really prevails in Humboldt County. Locals fail to recognize that the rain forest has been trucked away by Palco and other timber hungry Corps. We now get heavy rains and long breaks. GM trees are now replacing Redwoods. And I am not a radical individual nor am I a Tree Sitter. My father worked for the mill in Amador County when it was owned by American Forest Products and various other companies. It is now evident that the Sierra's have been affected by the removal of the Trees. It is almost unbearable to visit during the summer because of the heat. And for those loyal to Palco etc. Get a clue. All of you who worked for this company will find that Palco does not give a shit about any of you. Go to Amador County and speak to the mills former workers, mostly Republicans, and see how they feel.

Man is responsible for the destruction of this planet. We should not be arguing about Global Warning’s validity. Our priority should focus on how to reverse the damage we caused.

Fred, I wish you would live long enough to see my children suffer in the world you helped create.

More evidence of warming from real scientists. Not the ones Exxon pays.

The world Fred "helped create"? That's the first testimonyI have heard that Fred is one of God's helpers. I don't know how many children Fred has produced but how many exhalers has 10:49 spawned?

Gee Fred, are you referring to the anti-climate change "documentary" that "seriously misrepresented" an expert in oceanography? Don't parrot political propaganda. It belittles you.

Hey, all you Humboldters who have used wood stoves? Are you really going to point the finger of guilt at Palco? Get real with your own responsibility to Global Warming.

Nice one Steve. You have no evidence such people haven't gotten real about global warming. In fact, many of us have done far more than you could ever dream of. You're like the nitwits that assume all vegetarians walk around wearing leather belts. God save me from your ignorance.

An expected comment. As a commentor on Classically Liberal mentioned, the film will be attacked by attacking the producer who supposedly misquoted someone at one time or another.

I replied that it goes without saying they'll attack the producer. That seems to be the general plan of attack when anybody doesn't go along with political correctness: Accuse them of being some right wing or corporate shill promoting some conspiracy.

Seems to happen all the time. We've seen it here a number of times.

Surprising New Arctic Inhabitants: Trees Andrea Thompson

Rising temperatures fueled by global warming are causing forests of spruce trees to invade Arctic tundra faster than scientists originally thought, evicting and endangering the species that dwell there and only there, a new study concludes.

Tundra is land area where tree growth is inhibited by low temperatures and a short growing season. In the Arctic, the tundra is dominated by permafrost, a layer of permanently frozen subsoil.

The only vegetation that can grow in such conditions are grasses, mosses and lichens. Forests of spruce trees and shrubs neighbor these tundra areas, and the boundary where they meet is called the treeline.

In summer, the permafrost thaws, and the tundra becomes covered in bogs and lakes, allowing a unique habitat for plants. Climate change, meanwhile, has extended the summer warming season and promoted tree growth, causing the treeline to encroach on the tundra.

By looking at tree rings, researchers reconstructed a 300-year history of tree density and treeline position. The results show trees can creep up on the tundra faster than previously thought.

“The conventional thinking on treeline dynamics has been that advances are very slow because conditions are so harsh at these high latitudes and altitudes,” said Ryan Danby of the University of Alberta. “But what our data indicates is that there was an upslope surge of trees in response to warmer temperatures. It’s like it waited until conditions were right and then it decided to get up and run, not just walk.”

While in many places the idea of more trees is a good one, this Arctic takeover endangers species like caribou and sheep that thrive in the tundra, as well as the native people who depend on these species for their survival.

The details of the study are published in the March issue of the Journal of Ecology. Danby plans to continue his research as a part of the International Polar Year research effort.

Supposedly? You have the researcher himself saying his comments and research were grossly mischaracterized, to put it politely. Fred, your head is buried firmly in the sand.

Indeed 11:50, the glaciers are disappearing and permafrost land now grows shrubs and trees. The Army Corps of Engineers has photos over the last 100 or so years of parts of Alaska; the change is big.

Interesting update from Classically Liberal blog about the producer of The Great Global Warming Scam.
Quoting from the most recent comment:

Please do note that there is a libertarian Left just as there is a a libertarian Right. And the producer of this documentary was associated with Marxist publications in the past and apparently says he is a Marxist. People tend to forget that the Greens repudiated some aspect of Marxism mainly the support for science, industrialization and Western principles. Hard to believe but there is an old Left that did hold to such values. But you are right that it was a good documentary.

Hell yes, Steve. Ever hear of the carbon cycle? Burning wood isn't burning fossil fuel and it isn't an old growth clearcut. What kind of smoke are you inhaling?
