Humboldt Heat Waves

Yep, it has been warm lately, as the Times- Standard reports. Wouldn't have been surprised if some record was broken, but couldn't be sure. Actually, I thought Sunday was the warmer of the last few days if only because there wasn't enough of a breeze to notice. Temperature wise, I guess Saturday was the warmest.

Seems to me we had a short heat wave up here in the summer of '74(?). I forget just what month it was in but, if memory serves me correct, temperatures were up in the eighties for three or four days. To add insult to injury, not only was it humid, there was no wind to speak of.

No air conditioners around here so nowhere to hide from it and all I'd do was sweat, take a cold shower and start sweating again. Miserable days, indeed, unless my memory is playing tricks with me.

Any old timers out there remember that one?

Must be all the hot air from the Arcata City Council, which is set to drive in the last nail of betrayal of their "Green" values when they approve Sean Armstrong/DANCO's sprawl ag-killing development next month.

Rose, will you love it when our redwoods die en mass and the last of our timber jobs blow away on a warm autumn breeze?

Or will I love it when the ocean rises 4 feet? Is that what you are asking?

Rose likes to believe whatever she pleases. She was one of those little girls who made it into high school still believing in Santa.

"sprawl ag-killing development."?

What are you talking about. Isnt that to be built on an old mill site? Have you seen it. It is covered in rock fill.

It's nearly surrounded by ag land, and it could and should be restored if HumCo ever expects to be able to feed itself.

Rose, I hope you are not one of those
in denial- thinking the climate change thats happening right now is some 'liberal plot'?

Its not made-up, its not a 'plot'.
Its real, and already we are seeing the consequences. Our current 'administration' has chosen the big-business-greed approach, while the next 20 years will brings changes you cannot imagine. and EVERYONE will suffer. The best we can do is ACCEPT it- and plan accordingly.
(Or hide and pretend it will go away.)
