Court Halts Jessica's Law
The State Supreme Court put a halt to Jessica's Law, at least with regards to four registered sex offenders. Hopefully the ruling will end up applying to all the other registered sex offenders as well.
Jessica's Law, you might recall, was the recently passed initiative that forbids sex offenders from living within 2000 feet of schools and parks. This rules out living pretty much anywhere in some urban areas and has left many offenders homeless or forced to move to rural areas.
Worthy of note, is that one of the plaintiffs in the case was convicted as a sixteen year old of having consensual sex with a fifteen year old. Just another illustration of why we need to not just get rid of Jessica's Law, but take a look at how we label sex offenders in the first place.
I'm very proud of opposing Jessica's Law from the get- go.

Great Fred - I say that you call the CDC and offer to have all these parolees live next door to you.
Fred Mangels : The biggest idiot in Humboldt County.
Fred, you are one sick puppy.
You wouldn't happen to be a sex offender yourself, Fred?
The sex offender laws are bullet-proof because anyone asking for a re-evaluation is accused of "being one himself."
You seem to be courageous on this subject and that probably means you are squeaky clean. You'd have to be.
No I'm not. I'm guilty. I've had sex with girls under the age of 18 multiple times. They were between the ages of 14 to just under 18. I started at the age of 14 or 15 and couldn't help myself but continue.
Girlfriends, or not, that shameless behavior follows me to this day. I feel so ashamed. :-(
Good thing I wasn't caught and convicted or I'd have had to move from this house since I live closer than 2000' to some schools.
I guess you've never had a daughter, Fred. If you did, you would probably be more rational about this subject. We are concerned with the safety of our children, Fred. Maybe you just don't grasp that emotion? Or why most people DO NOT feel sorry for scum of the earth sexual predators, Fred? You seem to think this subject is some kind of joke. It's not. But Fred Mangels is most definitely a joke. A bad joke.
It's certainly not a joke. It's also something we need to keep the lynch mob mentality, that you have, out of.
I'd like you to go tell your daughter's boyfriend that if you ever find out he and your daughter had sex, you'll have him prosecuted and branded for life as a sex offender.
If nothing else, maybe he'll wise up and get a different girlfriend with more level headed parents.
The sexual predators are not your average teenagers having sex in the back seat of their cars. These guys are creeps and scum that prey on young people who can't defend themselves, kids whose parents are not paying attention to what their kids are doing and with who at all times. Geez, do some research.
No, you do some research.
Some young folks, and older folks as well, are being labeled "sex offenders" when they've just done stuff most everyone else has.
No Fred, most people don't sexually molest children. Older folks who are being labeled sex offenders for molesting children deserve that title, don't you think? Do you have an example of an "older folk" being labeled as a sex offender when they shouldn't have been?
I survived growing up with a sex offender. After I reported him and he served his time, he returned home to live as a registered sex offender with my mother and I again. If my Step-Father couldn't live 2000' from a school, I couldn't either.
The system is fucked in innumerable ways when it comes to dealing sexual violence. A blanket restriction like Jessica's Law is an ill-informed attempt to protect the innocent. Statistics reflect that sexual predators often lurk within a the home and family - they are not the child snatchers we've been taught to fear.
I believe Jessica's law is a meaningless piece of legislation that designed to make us feel better about a bad situation.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but, Jessica's Law makes no distinction between a sexual predator and casual sex between an 18 year old and a sixteen year old. Too many young people are being branded as predators and molesters. Jessica's Law should be reviewed and refined so that only those guilty of crimes are convicted of crimes. Wrongly convicted as a molester follows you for the rest of your life. The law, as written, needs to attend to details. Sadly, it casts too wide a net, and too often criminalizes the innocent.
Pretty much what I'm trying to say, 8:50, but the lynch mob mentality regarding any accused or convicted sex offender ends up drowning out the message.
Thanks.
Shame on your mother Kaivalya. She should never have allowed a sex offender to live with her child, especially since it sounds like you were the one he offended.
Fred, did you see that your friend Bill O'Reilly is being asked to apologize tonight (on Keith Olbermann's Countdown program on MSNBC) for his remarks about the eleven-year-old boy who was kidnapped, tortured, and repeatedly sexually-assaulted for four years? O'Reilly had said the boy enjoyed the ordeal. You agreed with him, as I remember.
Have you changed your opinion since the news came out that the kidnapper tried to kill the boy? The kidnapper agreed not to kill the boy because the boy agreed to let the kidnapper do anything he wanted to do to the boy. That is how the boy stayed alive for those four years.
Would you like to reconsider your remarks in light of the new evidence that has come to light?
No, I will not reconsider my remarks, you piece of shit, especially since we're talking of two different incidences.
The one I was referring to was a kid who's sister was abducted and yet he kept going back to his sister's abductor's house. He didn't know the guy abducted his sister.
He ended up on "Heraldo", or one of those shows. One of the audience members asked him why he continued to visit the guy after his sister disappeared. He replied that the guy "gave me money...".
A rather awkward moment, for those watching the show, myself included.
Yet, you, the quintessential piece of shit, figures that means I think all kids enjoy being molested.
I'm just saying the kid thought it was worth his relationship with the guy for the money he received.
You're a real piece of work, 5:26. You should feel comfortable, though. You have plenty of company, you piece of shit.
Anybody want to figure out if that was Jake Pickering that made the previous post? Not sure just how to do it, myself.
I've tried checking before, but it never seems to work.
I wrote you a respectful note.
You replied by calling me a piece of shit.
Look into the mirror you low scum sucking tweaker.
Somehow, I didn't consider that a "respectful note". Whatever.
Fraud, Your mouth is so full of "shit" it probably smells like an out house.
What, no snappy come-back?
I'm not going to back and forth with insults. I only do the insults on occasion.
You don't deny that you are a tweaker?
How about you just remember this. If you had been that rude to me in person, both of us would probably have ended up in the hospital.
"You don't deny that you are a tweaker?".
Nope. Not a druggie.
"If you had been that rude to me in person, both of us would probably have ended up in the hospital.".
No, you would have ended up in the hospital, or worse, should you have chosen to attack me physically.
Dream on, little boy.
Think what you like, I do not initate physical attacks against anyone. If someone attacks me, I will defend myself. It's legally and morally right.
You are in absolutely no danger from me if you do not initiate a physical attack against me.
I don't believe I've ever initiated a physical attack against anyone, in over 52 years of living.
Been in a few physical squabbles with others, as a kid, but never started the two or three of them I was involved in. Well...maybe one, but that was actually my best friend's fight. He started it. I didn't, and all I did was push a guy.
I'm guessing from the exchange of ideas and emotions between us tonight that each of us is a pretty good guy, but with a shorter fuse (quicker temper) than is sometimes good for us. Does that sound about right?
"Nope. Not a druggie."
Come on Fred, you've already admitted to smoking catnip and liking it!
peas on earth, good gin to men,
-kaivalya
"I'm guessing from the exchange of ideas and emotions between us tonight that each of us is a pretty good guy, but with a shorter fuse (quicker temper) than is sometimes good for us.".
Perhaps. I actually think I have a pretty long fuse. I just get pissed, sometimes, when I think people are making stupid comments. Doesn't happen that often (that I get pissed), but I do.
"Come on Fred, you've already admitted to smoking catnip and liking it!".
Oooooh!!! Now you've really made me mad, Kaivalya!!! :-x
Stupid comnments? Whatever, Fred. I just didn't want you to worry about being stalked.
