Traffic Problems Around The Park
This is the second letter I've read in the Times- Standard about traffic problems in the area of Eureka's Sequoia Park. I suppose it's not for me to say since I don't live there but I drive in that area fairly often. I've never noticed any of the problems the writers have described and would hardly call the situation "out of control". Maybe I just need to pay more attention?

Traffic on Walnut Avenue is nuts, especially during the rush hour. It's so bad that you can't hardly pull onto Walnut from a side street because of the unending stream of cars. I can't see anything trhat can be done about it either. Walnut Ave. is the main route to and from Cutten.
Yes, that area does get busy during the lunch hour, but I can't recall seeing anybody running stop signs. Not sure that I've even seen that many people speeding, either, as some have mentioned.
Will only get worse if the large subdivisions are built - Forester-Gill, etc.
If you want to know what is happening in a neighborhood, ask the neighbors.
Fred, I thought you live close to Wabash and E Streets.
I'll bet you know more about the traffic conditions there than Jude Cole does.
Maybe her desccription of the traffic in her neighborhood is accurate.
It is true. I live right at the bottleneck of Hemlock and Walnut. People speed and fishtail around the turn quite often.
Well, the wife's parents live on Dolbeer Street, across from Kennedy Field. That's in the same area. I've never heard them complain about the traffic, but maybe cause I never asked. I've never noticed a large number of speeding cars when I've been there, either. But, again, maybe I'm just in the wrong place at the wrong time to see all this activity.
i often hold up traffic near sequoia park and the zoo while oogling at female walkers/joggers......maybe the letter writers were referring to people like me...
I often hold up traffic on Dolbeer as well. I drive the speed limit.
It does get dicey around Murphy's on Walnut and from the off streets along Dolbeer. But the real problem is people driving like a-holes. Hodgson is worse.
It is really cool when EPD or its EVP has a unit parked or cruising the area. The 'cop-inspired' responsible driving habits, darn near solve the problem.
The only thing that angers Eureka drivers more than someone driving at the speed limit, is pedestrians in a crosswalk.
