Really? True? .... or ... Totally false?

What part did the lack of modern medicine play? The lack of a life of leisure? The lack of a nation-based security system? The lack of a local police force.

But, whatever, go after the left's sacred cows. Problems is, the "natural food" movement has as many right-of-center devotees now too.

Not that you see things in left vs right. I'm just saying, "natural foods" - which might be defined by maximizing organic, maximizing local, minimizing processed, minimizing commercial, minimizing animal and maximizing plant - is something many people from all across the political spectrum (even in 4 dimensions) is beginning to enjoy. Pay attention and you'll even find those you might otherwise admire making, dare I say it, a profit, while selling and enjoying the products and lifestyle themselves. (Owner of Whole Foods)

re John MacKey ... "He's a self-styled libertarian: a vegan who sells sustainably raised meat, a man who compares the government's health care overhaul to "fascism" but wants to improve American diets.
And he thinks big businesses have an obligation to change customers' perception that big corporations are "primarily selfish and greedy." (Not that he's opposed to profits. In fact, Whole Foods posted a 49 percent boost in quarterly earnings in November."

(from NPR - copy and paste text into google to find the source)

Fred - Keep an open mind. I bet you would find a whole bunch to like in the natural foods movement. I'd even wager if you like good food and you and yours cook a bunch on your own (ie feed yourselves economically and healthily) you too are part of the "Natural Food" movement.

Haha! Look at Fred's post about his trip to SF to see his eating habits.

Btw, Fred does see things as left or right. In the above mentioned post he equates whole towns with being left or right. He is even foolish enough to think that Healdsburg is filled with leftists and he won't eat there because of that.

Yep. Love Taco Bell, although we didn't stop there last time when in Willits.

"He is even foolish enough to think that Healdsburg is filled with leftists and he won't eat there because of that."

Yep. No question of that. Most of Sonoma County is statistically Left. Healdsburg perhaps being one of the worst, with the town of Sonoma taking first place, from what I've read.

Except it's not really "leftists". It's more along the line of Authoritarian (I feel Authoritarian equates to The Left)- people that want government to do everything for them, much as we see in the comments here. Humboldt is pretty Authoritarian, too, although it wasn't like that when I first moved up here, 43 plus years ago.

I thought the picture was funny.

It is hilarious, Mola, but even more so are the serious humorless commenters. Not a day goes by eh.

There are some major factual issues with the image. Neolithic man drank anything but purified water. They were exposed to a multitude of pathogens in any water source, assuming other animals used that water source, too. (Think animal waste products.)

And while they may have eaten free range meat, it's not a health claim made by people today that free range meat is healthier... it's a moral claim about humanely treating animals bred for their meat. And, of course, their meals were hardly balanced or weighted toward what was healthiest for them, but the meme creator, and the people who share it, would like to think it's mirroring the absurdity of people who eat healthy today. In short, ignorance is on display. lol?

My favorite comment coming from an Arcata business person, a confirmed leftist: "Arcata lost its sense of humor about twenty years ago."

On humor Ross and anon. Trust me, the left is doing just fine. Thankyouverymuch.

The left can earn a living on it's humor, can the right? Is that too part of the lame stream media conspiracy?

Right wing humor has it's niches and can make money, but why can't it make money mainstream? My opinion? In part b/c it is generally making fun of others, while the left wing understands that it's important to be able to make fun of oneself. Also, the left has a heart, the right has one in there somewhere, it's under the tough love and around the stoicism. Anyway, I'm no doctor of right wing anatomy, but it's something like that.

"Arcata lost its sense of humor about twenty years ago."

It's a good meme, but again, like this post, simply not true. I'm sure it is true if the types of jokes focus on taking on right wing lies about our world or about the left. Today's post is a double whammy - taking on both.)

Here is another memorable joke I heard from a Supervisor - when I asked him/her what we could do about climate change - "fart less" (paraphrasing, but not by much).

Yes, you are right. Instead of laughing at such frustrating nonsense the left gets a little ... peeved. Especially as jokes like these reinforce behavior and policies that are wrong headed.

"I feel Authoritarian equates to The Left"

None of that is authoritarian Fred. That is one citizen typing to another. You can choose to spend your hard earned money at Taco Bell.

Just don't come complaining to me when people crunching the numbers (not to mention the people going to the ballot box) begin to understand your behavior has costs that I, your neighbor, have to bear for you.

What's happening Fred, something that you nor Reason magazine will ever be able to figure out, is that we are correcting for the mistakes of the past. We are on a path of capturing more of the true costs of a product or service - thus making - the market - a little - bit - freer.

The basics of Privileges, Natural Rights, Unalienable Rights, Constitutional Rights.

PRIVILEGE:
A special entitlement to immunity GRANTED by the state or another authority to a restricted group, either by birth or on a conditional basis.

UNALIENABLE RIGHT:
A Right that CANNOT be taken away or denied.

NATURAL RIGHT:
Fundamental human Rights derived from Natural Law or Right Reason as opposed to those based on man-made law.

CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT:
A Liberty or Right whose PROTECTION from Governmental interference is guaranteed.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~. This means you do not have the right to force Wicca worship (save the planet, worship Al gore) or Republican worship (all gays are evil) or Democrat worship (government will save us!), etc..
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ , The USA is a Constitutional Republic that utilizes the democratic process to vote for constitutional laws. If the law is not constitutional, (see above definitions), it is null and void.

Anon 8:45....Is that the type of humor Arcata and the left doesn't get?

Isn't it appropriate to react defensively when someone is telling you to drink cyanide? That is not humor as much as it is an insult and more importantly an an attempt at obtaining political leverage. Yup, all that is there.

And then the suicidal (Kool-Aid, Jim Jones) left, wether it's someone who calls you out on mis-information (aka lies) or an economically and socially successful city guided by educated, liberal thought that is lacking in .... Humor.

I think not. I think it's time for a little clearer definition of what the right thinks passes as humor. If calling for someone to commit suicide is item A in evidence and this post is item B, well then ... Well then. .... I guess we just keep calling you out on you faux humor AND faux facts like Arcata or the left is devoid of humor.

I have yet to see a humorous quote or meme from liberals.
The conservatives, otoh, know humor. I love the meme of the cat with Trumps combover. The meme of Trumps hairdo on Hillary.
Liberals? All I see is bashing memes. They don't understand that people help others without force, for instance. The liberals twist this as "they don't like helping others".
You're sipping too much poisonous kool-aid, indeed.
