Bloggers Get Attention In SoCal

Should we be jealous? Looks like some blogger/ gadfly types in Southern California are actually getting some attention from politicos down there.

That bugmenot link does work.

Interesting comment: For all the furor the blogs create, city officials could take a cue from Fontana Mayor Mark Nuaimi.

Nuaimi routinely posts on a blog in his city and said he welcomed it as a way to communicate with citizens.

"I'm not going to sugarcoat things," he said. "If somebody misses the issue, I'll tell them. I'm sure folks in the future will use whatever I've written and will twist it. Frankly, my job is to do my job, and part of my job is to answer people's questions."

In order to have influence you need to have a point of view that reflects some larger public opinion. Simply being envious and jealous of others isn't a qualification.

Fred is really interested only in how to get more welfare for himself, get stuff for less money, reminiscing about his misspent life, and whining about the injustice that other folks have satisfying lives and are publically admired.

Bloggers like Fred will NEVER have ANY influence among societies comprised of the competent and able, but attract only the marginal, disgruntled, and dispossessed losers.

You are so wrong, 2:41, yet you keep trying. Obviously you have never met Fred, and cannot comprehend true goodness when you see it.

Rose, you're EXACTLY the kind of person I meant that Fred's mindless blather would appeal to. All you're about is how bad Gallegos is. He won two elections. You've won nothing, just have anger against someone who's actually performing in REAL life.

I don't agree with all of Gallegos' decisions, but he's a damn sight better than his defeated predesessor and he's supported by a larger portion of the community.

Thanks, Rose.

4:17's comments speak for themselves, which is why I leave them up here.

I've never met him either, but the way he's pointing his finger and making a face in his picture,I think he's possessed by the devil.

Gee. Thanks, esquan.

Agreed: I do need a different picture. Too many comments like that.

Oh, mresquan, I can't believe you guys haven't met! We should fix that!

Well I have a good idea of where he lives,as I believe I saw him getting out of his truck not too long ago.It was about as smack dab in the middle of Eureka as it gets. Not far from a church,I'll leave it at that.
And when I first saw this blog and his picture I thought I've probably run into him once or twice at Happy Donuts, which is next to Safeway between Henderson and Harris, and is the closest donut shop for us Pine Hillers(plus they have awesome apple fritters).I've seen someone in there who resembles him.Could it be,Fred?

Not at Happy Donuts, at least not IN Happy Donuts. I'm not a donut or pastry guy. I do my banking at Provident Central Credit Union which is next door to Happy Donuts, though.

Greg and I met Fred at Happy Dog. Fred, you are much younger looking in real life than in your photo. But I like your photo, as it makes me laugh. And I like the cap that your wife made for you, too.

I think blogs have become integrated into politics and the media. We shouldn't be jealous. We should be proud and happy for our SoCal bloggers.

I like the photo too. It's playful.

And maybe we're ahead of SoCal - didn't a key election official come on the blogs to correct rumors that were swirling during the election? Seems to me there has been one other instance as well - was it Ronnie Pellegrini? Seemed like a good idea to me, but, if the County were to encourage such comments, there could be real problems, and it could deteriorate very quickly - people would have to get approval before posting messages - you can just imagine.

And we do have reporters from the local news media frequenting the blogs as well. At least that's the impression I get having seen comments by some and also having received e-mails from others.

Unfortunately it seems like the biased hacks like Hank Sims are on more often, while the diligent, non-belligerent fair players like Driscoll or Kirby are never here.

Driscoll's been here, although I don't know often he visits. I know that because he e-mailed me regarding a post I made once.

I get the impression Faulk visits this and other blogs regularly and seems to me I got an e-mail from Kimberly Wear the other day regarding one thing or another.

I've gotten e-mails from some of the Eureka Reporter writers, too, now and again.

Hank's just comments more often than some of the others. The others seem to prefer to just e-mail me directly.
