Meat Processing At The Marina?

Looks like there's serious talk of a meat processing plant being built in Ukiah. A little more info on it in the Ukiah Daily Journal than was available in today's Times- Standard. Sounds like a good idea, the way they present it.

I wonder if Humboldt could support something like that? We already have at least one meat processing plant, that being Redwood Meats or whatever it's called, out in Myrtletown. Now that's something I wouldn't mind seeing somewhere down on the Balloon Tract, or one of the other vacant lots by the waterfront: INDUSTRY!

How about it Brian [Morrissey]: Think we could set aside some room for a meat processing plant at Marina Center? If not there, maybe somewhere else?

A more important question is whether North Coast Meats, or any other entity, would want to bother trying to start up a plant in Humboldt County?

How about a crematorium by the bay? Would be compatible with a slaughterhouse..

Cremation by the bay in conjunction with Blues by the bay maybe?

If God hadn't wanted butchered meat, he wouldn't have invented the hammer gun.

Is there much demand for a meat processing around here? I suspect that some of our neighbors might have issues with the sounds, smells and the sights of a fully functional meat processing plant in the downtown area. There are any number of vacant mill sites around the county that would work well for that use. I’d be glad to help out with site selection if the demand is here.

Also, we do have the Lost Coast Brewery's manufacturing facility on the plant. We are expecting about 70 new industrial jobs from that part of the project.

That's what I'm wondering: Is the demand there?

Also; Do we have the livestock to support it? Transportation being another issue, in and of itself.

I don't know. Just throwing out the idea.

The site couldn't stink more than the political corruption involved with the current proposal.

Jeff Leonard was pimping for the Arkleys tonight at the Wharfinger. Pretty pathetic performance.
