Asset Forfeiture Hits Close To Home

Interesting goings on in Mendocino County regarding some asset forfeiture shenanigans. Shenanigans, at least according to the two guys suing libertarian and Mendocino County District Attorney, Norm Vroman, for misuse of asset forfeiture funds.

According to them, Vroman has, "
misspent asset forfeiture funds on items including machine guns, silencers, a car and on Vroman's campaign for re-election.".

Hmm... what's all that about? Vroman says this is just an effort to screw up his re- election campaign. Could well be. We've seen the kind of vitriol people hold for candidates other than their own right here on this blog. I'm sure it's no different in Mendocino County.

I hope the Ukiah Daily Journal covers more of this story cause I'm dying of curiousity.

That story came out right before the primary election. You can find the report here.

Thanks, Hank. That's exactly what I was looking for. Woohoo! Looks like he's taking the definition of "perks" to its limit.

Kind of embarrassing to see a libertarian get Forfeiture Endangers American Rights on his case.

Yeah. I understand some of them are even in favor of the war on Islamist jihadists that dance in the streets when westerners are blown up.

silencers?...what for? I mean, obviously for killing people, but why would the cops need silencers? Or are they not for the cops?

Golly, all these politics and police business is so confusing!

Asset forfeiture is big business these days. The county of Los Angeles used to pay mileage reimbursement to Sheriff's investigators such as Leonidas who used their own vehicles. Since 1992 this practice has been discontinued as the detectives are supplied vehicles seized from "crooks" and fuel from county gas pumps. The MP5s are the weapons made famous by Clinton's goons who seized Elian Gonzalez. Leonidas considers the 9mm caliber to be a "poodle shooter" but the MP5 can deliver a lot of rounds quickly. The "silencers" were way too expensive.

And since Vroman and Gallegos are brothers in arms does that mean Gallegos has machineguns and silencers ?
