Times- Standard Starts Letter Award

Send yours in now!

Looks like the Times- Standard is following the North Coast Journal's lead and running a Letter of the Month program.

This should be fun. Only problem is, except for a the proud few that write under their own names in the Humboldt blogosphere, anonymous letters aren't accepted, nor should they be. We likely won't see too many of the blog trolls sending letters in.

Yep, because we are not show dogs who perform for treats.

Are they using the NCJ idea with letter of the week, where the lucky writer gets ice cream?

The problem with letters is that they are treated different than the online comments. You cannot comment on the letters online and to write a letter commenting on a previous letter is a waste because of the time lag and people forgetting what the original letter was about. However if they enabled comments on the letters, how would you justify forcing identity on the letters and not on the comments. I like the online comments on the TS articles, except for the idiot trolls that post there regularly. I wish that the other papers would enable it also.

Different blogs produce different degrees of blather. This blog is one of the more balanced ones. I stopped reading the TS comments because the noise level rose to the point it drowned out reasonable discussion.

Good Idea. I nominate Fred to designate a most worthy comment from every thread on his blog, if he thinks there is one.

Don't know if there's an easy way for him to do that using some software tool. Anyone else know?

The prize, as always in HumCo, would be bragging rights.
