David Brooks on Progressives
David Brooks is a columnist for the New York Times. He's been on television and radio as the "conservative" voice opposite big government types such as E.J. Dionne. I always thought him a bit wishy- washy, at best, a statist at worst. I thought he hit the nail on the head with his column that was published in the Santa Rosa Press- Democrat today:
"Today, liberalism seems to have changed. Today, many progressives seem to believe that government is the horse, the source of growth, job creation and prosperity. Capitalism is just a feeding trough that government can use to fuel its expansion."
So true.

I'm a liberal. I view government as what protects me, everyone, from naked capitalism. It has failed in recent decades though as deregulation has made a train wreck of the country and exported jobs (by design).
Deregulation haze made a train wreck of the country? There have been more regulations past in the last 15 years then were past in the first 215 years its lack of accountability that has ruined this nation
"Henchman Of Justice" says,
Certainly, Government is supposed to protect us to a certain extent. As far as "naked capitalism", what is that? It is true "deregulation" has been aweful in certain industries, but that is just it, there HAS BEEN MORE regulation created that has caused problems too. So, it seems the Two Party System once again is "nailing both ends simultaneously".
De-regulation hurts as much as regulation hurts, argue two separate points and become a democrat and a republican. Less of both would be best! - HOJ
The thing is we have lots of regulations they are selectively in forced though. as in too big to follow the rules oops I mean fail. now if your a little mom and pop outfit on the other hand they bring the hammer down.
Just wait until we have a run on banks in this country. That will be true socialist "progess." Cyprus = California
