Fukushima Science Denial?
The San Jose Mercury News reports on a couple prominent scientists who say radiation from the Fukushima nuclear plant meltdown will likely be little, if any, threat to those of us on the west coast.
As should be expected nowadays, the first comment to the story is from someone claiming the scientists are wrong, if not lying, and that one is just a shill for the nuclear industry. Where have we heard that sort of thing before? In this case, who is being the denier?
In fairness to that commentator, if the radiation were a deathly threat to the entire coast, what would we likely be hearing from the powers- that- be? Perhaps the same thing we're already being told?

I recommend researching the history of the Chemical Manufacturing Association. Specifically, their actions in the 60s.
It's funny when a conservative believes 2 scientists when their speech jibes with his thinking, but will reject the speech of hundreds of scientists who agree on a different issue that the conservative is opposed to.
Ultimately, on the radiation issue, the data speaks.
Funny that you don't specify what that data said.
What you say about "conservatives" applies to most everyone. I've been saying for some time that most people believe what science they feel comfortable with. Political concerns can play a big part in what they feel comfortable with. So does peer pressure, which is often closely aligned with one's political feelings.
I assume the "conservative" you refer to is me, except I don't believe I said who or what I believed in this instance. I'd suggest your political leanings might have colored your thinking.
The bottom line is that science is not really all that objective anymore. It's heavily politicized and for sale. It will likely remain that way in the foreseeable future.
since the 50's with all the nuclear test or background radiation has more than doubled and just look at the increase of cancers and other diseases some cancers has risen as much as twenty thousand percent in last 30 years you really think there's no connection radiation is cumulative it won't kill you in a few months or a couple years unless you get extremely high dose but the normal background radiation that we have now will give just about everybody cancer in about 50 years couple that with the onslaught of radio waves from cell towers and cell phone usage and smart meters.. I went out and bought my own got your counter so far local readings are about 20 count per minute which is pretty normal but there are higher reported readings the help and fish stretching from the south to north end of California but in 30 or so years when the evidence is cleared it will be too late to do anything about it
