New City of Eureka Newsletter
I was surprised to find in my inbox this morning an e-mail from the Eureka City Manager's office that had the very first edition of a City of Eureka October eNewsletter attached. How did I get signed up for that? Not that I'm complaining. It comes in pdf format.
The City Manager's column at the beginning says it's a supplement to their quarterly reports which are available on the city's web site.
So what was inside? A brief introduction from the city manager, a calendar of city government events, a story of sorts about a police dispatcher, a mention of the Welcome to Eureka project planned for the south end of Broadway, City of Eureka job listings and a plug for the city's God awful Tree Lined Streets program, among other things.
One thing I found rather odd was this disclaimer at the bottom of the e-mail:
This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. If you have received this email in error please notify the sender. This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named. If you are not the named addressee you should not disseminate, distribute or copy this e-mail. Please notify the sender immediately by e-mail if you have received this e-mail by mistake and delete this e-mail from your system. If you are not the intended recipient you are notified that disclosing, copying, distributing or taking any action in reliance on the contents of this information is strictly prohibited.
What's that about? One of those standard disclaimer sort of things?
I didn't see any subscribe instructions but, if you're interested in getting the newsletter, try e-mailing Executive Assistant to the City Manager, Christine Tyson. She's the one that sent it and wrote that if you don't want it to contact her.
Anybody else get one?

It's likely a standard disclaimer appended to every e-mail sent from a city e-mail account. It's also 100% BS. It caries no legal weight beyond an irrational fear it might instill in someone who doesn't know any better.
