Another Grand Jury Doesn't Indict

Hot off the presses: The Washington Times reports the grand jury looking at evidence against a New York police officer for the "chokehold" death of a man has declined to indict him.

Use of force questions aside, it's important we look at what brought this whole thing about. The man was being arrested for selling loose, untaxed cigarettes. Those of you think you're doing anyone a favor by taxing or restricting tobacco will have to think again as the black market expands and we see more incidents like this.

Are you a smoker Fred?

Yep. I don't feel that has anything to do with it. I don't smoke pot, yet I support the rights of those who do. I don't take illegal drugs (although I used to decades ago), yet I support the rights of those who do.

Fred: It would seem the anti-government Lubertarians (and a few conservatives) would be upset that this guy lost his life for this. Maybe he had an arrest able offense but unlike Michael Brown there was a video. We have all seen it, and the guy was pleading for help they continued to pile on the guy. He had no weapons. He had not harmed or punched the officer. I can live with the Ferguson decision but this one was probably wrong. The chokehold he used which caused his death is banned by NYPD. This might not be murder, but this is open and shut manslaughter, which would have lead to better accountability.
