That Bathroom Thing

The Daily Kos covers a Chris Matthews interview with a transgendered woman (or would that be a guy?) and a guy from the Family Research Council opposed to letting transgendered use bathrooms for the sex they self- identify with. The TG girl makes what I felt was a remarkably libertarian statement:

"So you don’t want me in the men’s room. And you know how you create that perfect situation? Just stop. Stop coming up with these laws. Stop causing trouble where there is no trouble."

The Family Research guy blows it, imo, not knowing how to answer a question. I would have just replied, if you have a weenie, use the men's bathroom. If you don't, use the women's. Seems simple enough to me.

Except, of course, when a biological female walks into a women's restroom wearing clothing associated with men, and looks like a man (say, with a full beard), that person will get hassled every time the restroom is used, and probably have the cops called. Is that the type of society you want to live in?

Since this new spate of bathroom laws, we've seen several instances of non-trans people being hassled and/or cops called because some knuckledragger thought someone else looked transgendered. What kind of perv looks a person up and down in a restroom? Apparently self-righteous straight people do.

So, shall we resurrect laws that mandate the style haircut, clothing, make-up and jewelry each biological gender should wear? Or should we nix these invasive new laws that are causing trouble for everyone where there previously was no trouble? (And by that, I mean no trouble for as long as trans people have been using bathrooms... since America has been a country no doubt.)

I look at who is in the bathroom with me......for my safety and my grand children's safety........we all judge one another on someone's looks and/or the way they act and behave.....I want to feel safe in a restroom where I will be removing pieces of my clothing....It is a safety issue NOT a gay thing or a transgender thing.....Safety first!

OK, so you fully inspect the personal appearance of every person in a restroom trying to profile whether they're a criminal. I gotta say, if I noticed you checking me out in a bathroom, I would feel, at a minimum, extremely uncomfortable. I might even feel threatened. I caution you about staring people up and down in restrooms. Go in, get your business done, and leave. That's what transgendered people do. You can tell zip about a person by how they appear. Only be concerned if the person gets into your personal space.

A person who is going to rob or rape you doesn't need a complicated gender disguise, and that behavior (robbing or raping) was already illegal before this these genital laws began being written.

If you have men's "parts" go to the men's restroom. If you have women's "parts" go to the women's restroom. This should not be a difficult concept.
