County Pot Sales Tax On The Way

The Times- Standard reports the county Board of Supervisors is considering  a sales tax for marijuana that might soon be legally grown here. This should come as no surprise. I've wrote here before of a friend years ago telling me the only reason drugs aren't legal is government hasn't figured out a way to tax them. He's now retired from the Casa Grande, AZ police dept.

And how true that is. As we've seen everywhere marijuana has been legalized or decriminalized, governments, especially local ones, want some of the action. What gets me is we hear no complaints from most people. If it was a private company trying to skim money from the pot operations, we'd hear accusations of greed and unbridled capitalism. When our supposedly benevolent government does the same thing, not a word.

with a state sales tax bill making its way thru the legislature , the counties passing sales taxes for selling pot , and here in city of clearlake requiring business license to grow , it wont be long before they all head back underground like it was before it was legal to grow

They wouldn't be having to look for extra ways to soak the people if the Woods bill was written for the citizens & counties instead of for the regulatory depts. This whole industry now reeks from more corruption than ever before.
I'm hoping Darrell Castle gets on the ballot in every state. He's the only one who understands & respects the role of government in the lives of citizens, which is no role at all. He is for decriminalizing it.

"We're making these people come into compliance so we can enforce the grows that are not coming into compliance." ~ Rex Bohn

This is disturbing. For years, the leadership and those campaigns by Lovelace outta Arcata, etc...preach protecting the environment by enforcing the laws that were current on the books and still are.

So, then in tooling a scheme to pocket dip on the pot action, supes instead start a regulatory scheme to tax "medical pot", really, taxing a drug that is no different than chemotherapy for some people in the level of need for weed, no pun intended.

As part of "the medical weed cultivation regulatory process to legaluze", supes back door deals lead to non enforcement measures to continue for another 4-8 years, in addition to the past 4 decades.

Then, planners attempt to sqyeeze through a mitigated negative declaration that should be a full blown eir because the county planners are trying to make easier to tax by covering up and sweeping under the rug those actual past environmental impacts - aka, raising the bar to that point which cant ascribe to recognixe lower, but worse levels of land degridation from illegal activities of marijuana culrivation.

Rex Bohn knows this and has the audacity to "phrase a response" that spits in the face of those who know the facts about how Humboldt County gubbamint and leadership over the years has been protecting their own political peers and the future political processes involving weed.

Irony - Americans go to Mexico to get medical drugs.

Why?

Costs much less cuz in America, the arrangment is you can die, and then pist mortem, you owe!

Taxing recreational weed is the only tax on weed HOJ will ever support. Growers already pay a shitload of taxes, called sales taxes, more than many people, no doubt.

Politics is really a silly, greedy situation in Humboldt right now cuz when it comes to sales taxes, in one hand, the sales taxes are the way to go (but not on medical) and in the other hand, the income tax rates are not being lowered in the county (a mandate for HOJ to agree to additional sales taxes in society is to simultaneously lower income tax rates).

Supes seem to always say stuff that incriminates their way of thinking.

I've felt that for some time. The taxes might wll givetthe black market grow- your own type stuff an edge over the regulated stuff. It might even be fun to watch government screw this up.

HOJ, why do say that? You prefer regulatory agencies over Liberty? Darrell is against regulatory agencies run by the central govt.
