Another School Closes

Looks like yet another local school will be shutting down due to declining enrollment. I'm actually surprised that district officials are refering to this as a "reorganization" or merger, rather than a closure. I would expect them to call it a closure if only to help generate the notion that the schools are in crisis.

Meanwhile, on the state level, lobbyists for the Educational- Industrial Complex will be hitting up the state for yet another increase in education spending. Who'd a thought they'd be doing that again so soon? Or, maybe they never stopped?

Doesn't look like the schools are the only ones begging for shit this time of year, did you see that post in Freecycle?

I think that it is a sign of the times that Humboldt County is going to have more and more problems with schools. Young people with kids don't stay here, or in the case of Arcata, they don't school them in "Normal" schools.

If you think the Arcata schools are bad, check out how many "teachers" in the Willow Creek/Hoopa district send their own darlings off to school on the coast.

I'm looking to find someone with a large enough vehicle to transport two rolls of used but clean carpeting from Bellingham, WA to Eureka, CA. IN your vehicle, not ON it, so they don't get wet or dirty.
One roll weighs about 10 pounds, and is about 6 or 7 feet long. The other roll weighs about 40 pounds and is about 10 feet long.
I'm offering $40 towards your gas: $20 when you pick it up, and another $20 upon delivery.
Anyone interested?
