It's Here!
The big day's here; The North Coast Journal is running their story on blogs, more specifically, local blogs. I can't really comment on it much cause I haven't read the story. I haven't gotten a hard copy yet, and it hasn't been uploaded to their web site, at least last time I looked. It should be online later today. You can read it by clicking on the NCJ link above.
Captain Buhne, of the Buhne Tribune isn't happy. He's already fuming about it. I'll have to give the Cap'n credit, he does have a better use of words than I and he's much more creative. I got to see at least the beginning of Hank Sims' part of the story using this link that the Cap'n supplied. Looks like I don't have to worry about this being a hatchet job on me. Thanks for the kind words and plug, Hank.
Now I'll have to remember to stop by that Cloney Island place up in Henderson Center to pick up the hard copy.

Awesome! Let's see some blog wars!
"all-around enigma Nicholas Bravo, who went into exile in small-town Nebraska sometime after the last election."
I'm in exile? Self-imposed I geuss. I may come back once I've licked my wounds and can afford to live there. Just how much of my blog did thy read? I'll admit, I have posted some deep-end stuff on my blog lately.
Hell, I'm honored I got mentioned. More free publicity I geuss. Course it would be fun to expand into a local political radio show, but that would be after I move back to Arcata. There's just not enough scandalous stuff happening here in nebraska.
"all things schwag"?
The North Coast Urinal's scimpy coverage of theplazoid.blogspot.com has me wondering if Hank actually took anytime to look at the blog that he was writing about.
Tad has very few postings on the blog, but is mentioned right away, after the "schwag" comment. Then there's the thing about the chamber of commerce - is the chamber of commerce ever even mentioned on the blog?
Totally absent from Hank's article is any mention of the documentation of police misconduct on the blog. Remember the "taser incident"? The Plazoid covered it before the Arcata LEye, the North Coast Urinal, or any other media that I am aware of. Other documented incidents of abuse by the police that are recorded on the blog aren't even covered at all anywhere else.
Also missing was the coverage of the Homeless Task Force meetings. Without The Plazoid, the Arcata public had only Kevin Hoover's extremely biased coverage to rely on.
And TOTALLY absent was any mention of the PRINT version of the Plazoid! The zine started in print and only went online as an afterthought - to make the documentation more widely available.
Also, the Plazoid is not only about homelessness issues. Jeez. Thanks for the pigeon-holing, dude. What about the tasers? Or the HSU issues? Or the pharmacueticals information?
Anyhow, it was nice to see the blogspot mentioned in print.
Thanks, Hank (and Fred).
Congrats to you Fred. I haven't read the article yet, but they call you the king.
Tad, I could tell he only read the first few bits of my blog. I've close to 3 months of intelligent insights that won't get mention. Yet, now that people will have knowledge of my blog they may visit and read more of it than a few lines, the free pubicity is worth a lot. Although I would like to see more posted on your blog, I read the comments in the advocate about Harmony suggesting the homeless give up their cars and bike everywhere. That shows an extreme lack of intelligence on her part since often a car is a homeless persons only form of shelter or transportation. Yet, Harmony would tell a pregnant homelss woman to bike everywhere....YEESH! If it weren't for the lack of jobs there I probably would move back and easily do a radio show about the follies of Acrcata city council, course I'd have to support some capitalistic ventures to better the lives of the citizens.
Oh c'mon now, guys. Quit nitpicking the blog stories. I haven't finished reading it yet but I like them so far. He can't include everything on every blog. They don't have enough room. It's just a synopsis, so to speak (probably a better word to use for that than synopsis).
Yet again Fred, you're right.
The real question is, how much did Bob clean up around his computer before taking that shot? I'd like to see a before and after shot myself.
Big Congrats to you, Fred!!! You deserve it!
Yeah, Fred: You deserve it.
Okay, I admit it. I tried to remove all incriminating evidence in the vicinity of my computer. And it looks much worse right now.
I'm suspicious that anon is someone who has actully been in my office. Have you? Was there even a caption identiying it as my computer?
BTW, did anyone notice they put up the same Blogging/Delivered billboard mentioned in the piece -- between Arcata and Eureka?
I saw that today and laughed myself Bob. I'll let you in on something. I'm right behind you in your house right now. Naw, just kidding, but you being a reporter and all, you should tell me how I figured out that was your computer. But instead, I'll tell you, and show you how much of a internet wizard I am. First off, you wrote the story, second, there was no by-line saying that was a picture by so-and-so, most newspaper folks aren't computer savvy and they like the ease of use of Macs (and the amount of time it took anyone to find out Salzman was sending all those letters by a simple IP check, leads me to Macuser), reporters are lazy at times, so why hunt around for a picture of a computer, when all you have to do is push yourself back a couple of feet and snap! And last:

It's labeled as your computer in the webpage.
Hehehehehehe. Thanks for letting me pull your chain long and hard.
Oh yeah Bob, there have been a couple of Journal racks with http://theplazoid.blogspot.com/ imprinted on them. Seems you guys really pissed of the peace loving hippies this time.
