Sears Weighs In On Balloon Tract Plan

Leo Sears, representing the Humboldt Taxpayer's League, weighs in on the Balloon Tract controversy in the Times- Standard's My Word column today. Interesting that it was published so soon after Salzman's commentary. Seems a bit quick to be in direct response to Salzman so it's likely just a coincidence.

Sears and the Taxpayer's League support the Arkley big box plan for the Balloon Tract. I tend to agree, as I alluded to earlier, if only because would be done with Security National's money as opposed to taxpayer funds. It certainly isn't likely to draw new people up here just to shop at a Home Depot, but a convention center isn't likely to draw enough people up here either. At least not enough people to pay for its multi- million dollar cost to the taxpayer.

Our very own Hank Sims, of the North Coast Journal, has started his own blog. Well, kinda. He just started one so he could use it for identifying himself when he makes comments. Someone turned the tables on him over at the Buhne Tribune and did the same thing just to jerk his chain, using the name he was using, so that kind of put the quash on that. I say make lemonade out of lemons, Hank! Use that blog.

I know it might be problematic separating what you write on your blog with what you write in the North Coast Journal but I think it's worth a shot. Heck, Dan Weintraub, of the Sacramento Bee does it. If nothing else, you could use your blog to comment on other blogs. No flaming this blog, though. That's off limits.

Speaking of Hank Sims, I almost missed his interview in this week's North Coast Journal, of Cheri Arkly. They're talking about the Balloon Tract. At least I spell Tract right.

Well, you asked how it was done, I just thought that I should show you. I didn't quite do it to jerk his chain, but to show him, it ain't safe.

I can't believe that this whole blog system isn't protected.

How dare you do something sneaky like that to me. Ooooh...now I'm REEEALLY mad!

I wouldn't worry too much, anon; I don't think it would be too difficult to create a phony profile like that. It would be much more difficult to actually take over a blog (I hope). Not that it couldn't be done.

Worst thing about something like what "Fred" just did is it makes it easy to post comments on someone's blog and get someone else in trouble for it.

My clever anonymous impersonator is correct, Fred. See how easy it is?

I don't know about your suggestion. I think I should leave blogging to the professionals. But do look for a blog story in an upcoming issue of the Journal.

A blog story for the Journal? How cool. Problem is, I haven't found many active blogs up here in Humboldt. Of course, you don't have to just cover Humboldt based blogs.

One question I have is just how open should one be in ones blog. Oftentimes some unscrupulous person will come along and use ones words against them in an unhonorable fashion. Also, many times a blog is viewed by far more people than people who leave a comment. I've had a couple people just blast me for things on my blog but I geuss anyone who expresses themselves in public should be able to handle the fact that there will be mudslingers.

Well, Nick, you just have to be as open as you're willing to take the heat for being. You know the old saying; If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Yeah, and don't be afraid to exercise your delete button. Free speech is great, but people don't need to tolerate personal attacks (most of which are posted anonymously) on their blogs. It makes for terrible reading and reminds me of the playground at recess with mean little bullies.

Now here is the question for murry, what if you can back up your claims? If I say someone has a small winky, and can prove it, is that protected, or is it a personal attack, or both? Bravo is my pet project because of his lies, coverups and half truths mixed in with out and out fraud. I mean he collected money from the government because he is unable to work while he ran for city office not once but twice! That's a dirty trick and he knows it. Bravo may have a good idea or two, but he is not that man for the job. Or ask him how much money he would blow on his buying sprees.

Whether or not Anon or Bravo has a small "winky" has nothing to do with intelligent commentary. The fraud thing is another story, and if you can back it up, then have at it. But it is precisely the "winky" type comments that are so childish and boring to read. And it reflects poorly on the blogger who allows such blather in their comments.

Hey anonymous, create a blog and I will discuss these accusations with you. In regards to running for office, I spent no disability money on my campaign. Buying groceries is not a spending spree, and I've heard these accusations of fraud on humboldt-forums.com, he shut it down cuz I threatened to sue him for slander. C'mon Anonymous! Let's discuss this like men and stop slinging mud like children. By the way, personal attacks and insults you make to my blog will be rejected. Intelligent conversation will be posted. C'mon Anonymous, BRING IT!

Sorry to post this here Fred, but I recieved an email today linking to this blog. First off, Mr. Bravo had nothing to do with the removal of Humboldt-Forums.com from the internet, what did happen however was the hosting company folded. The full website is back up and running without a problem, and on a much better host. Mr. Bravo had alot of fun posting on my forum as many different people, but when he tried his lame plan of "I'll sue" I banned his IP addresses from the forum.

The new forum is up and running well, but we don't have many posts yet. This time around I won't put up with the death threats or any other chickenshit things that happened on the last forum. And for the last time, I am NOT Rob Ammmerman, or however you spell his name, nor do I work for any newspaper in the area, nor do I know Kevin Hoover in person. And for the record, I wish people would stop feeding Mr. Bravo's ego and leave him alone, I try to ignore him myself.

Sorry for posting this in your blog Fred.

yet you have a post there that slanders me. My offer of a libel suit still stands. I'm willing to discuss things with you rationally but it seems you'd rather threaten and harass. Also, when I posted under different names it was an attempt to reflect YOUR OWN BEHAVIOR back at you. Sadly, you seem to be to thick skulled to get it. Personally I think it's hilarious that people on your forum would threaten to kill me and then you ban me for saying "I'll sue". Quite the double standard. and once again, let's bring this to my blog and stop cluttering up Fred's with needless personal attacks.

Wait, so you "slandered and libeled" to show people that it's wrong? You scare me, what happens when you work yourself up to murder and rape? PS Visit my blog Bravo, where I will make fun of you all the time!

I think most murderers and rapists should be publicly put to death, at the point that one commits that kind of crime they are no longer human but simply animals in human skin.
