Ethanol
I've never been very fond of the idea of using ethanol as a fuel substitute. Here's a lefty argument against using corn based ethanol. The comments at the bottom are pretty interesting as well.

The amount of grain fed to cows in this country is totally unjustifiable for the some of the same reasons that its unjustifiable to burn it all in our gas tanks.
Steve Pizzo is on the right track about it being a bad idea but I think his arguments about starving people are a little weak in light of how much grain is fed to cows and otherwise wasted.
why were comments deleated?
The first one I believe was deleted because it was a duplicate. He made the same comment twice. I don't know why he deleted the others.
Fred, I rather enjoyed reading all of those comments. There seemed to a lot of agreeing to disagree to agree... if you know what I mean. I'm not really sure where I stand on this issue. I suppose that may be because I don't really see gasoline as a 'crisis' at this point since there are so many other important things going on in our world. Not that this is worth not discussing. It was a good read and definitely food for thought (pun intended).
how do you delete a post? They often say deleted by the author, I assume that means the person who made the comment. But how do you do it?
There should be a little trash can showing in the bottom left of the comment window. I believe it's only viewable to those authorized to delete it so I'm not sure anons would see it as they haven't logged in.
When you click on the trash can a message will ask if you're sure you want to delete it. You click Yes and it's deleted.
If you really want to clear the message, select Permanent Delete and it won't show that anything was even deleted.
If the gentleman who wrote that article bothered to do any research, he would have realized the vast majority of the corn output of this nation feeds livestock, not people. It's the pigs that are going to go hungry, not humans.
