Eureka Mayor's Race Heats Up?

Meant to mention this yesterday: Wonder what's behind Eureka City Council Gal, Virginia Bass- Jackson, throwing herself into the race for Mayor of Eureka? Does she have a beef with Peter Levallee, or does it have something to do with either of the other two candidates in the race?

The Eureka Reporter doesn't say. No statements at all from Virginia B-S. In fact, most of the article talks about local pest, ok....gadfly, Jerry Droz.

Interesting chatter from Jerry: " “because this town is not being run right, if it’s being run at all, by anyone.”. And then: "The people should have more of a say-so in the city, in how it’s being run, ... It’s not me running the city, it’s the people of Eureka running the city.”. Hmmmm?

He also thinks City Councilcritters don't get paid enough.

This guy's only lived in Eureka four years. Shouldn't someone live here a little longer than four years before trying to take over the town?

Does Virginia have a beef with Lavallee? The Arkley's have a beef with him.I get the impression that they are sore losers.Even when I tried to explain to Rob via e-mai,that Cherie very well could have won the election under IRV,he remained bitter and said that the voters got what they deserved. He then sent out an e-mail basically restating that, and that IRV was an attempt at a leftist takeover. He even called Fred a left wing extremist!!!That was great.Virginia did beat Peter for the council seat, maybe there's a rivalry but I don't think so.If she wins she gets to appoint committee members, and as council sits today, her appointments probably would be confirmed.I see it as a bad move.It only invigorates those who really want 3 new councilmembers.

so whatever happened to your irv measure mark? are you guys too busy feuding with dave berman to get anything done?

At 6:21 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I didn't know anything did.So you tell me.Too busy feuding with Berman?News to me,but I'll ask him if we should be tommorow when I see him.Not getting anything done,no excuse for that.Oh,did measure T pass I don't remember?I did knock on quite a few doors for it,amongst other things. But do look for some IRV related stuff soon in the times-standard.And we are having a little event coming up soon(August 16th if I remember correctly). And tell my fellow HVA'ers to quit leaving town to deal with dying relatives. So anon 5:33 who are feuding with instead of getting anything done?I need to remind myself to post under anonymous so I can hide myself.

if measure t is your idea of deforming elections then you clearly arent competent enough to write an irv proposal.

thank you, and I'll take that into consideration.

I don't see what Virginia gets from running for mayor since she has more clout being able to vote as a council member. Maybe its simply the "old guard" wanting a serious conservative candidate to run against the current liberal mayor, not some loony.

At 10:51 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The right can't find candidates. They're recycling.

"she has more clout being able to vote as a council member...".

Yeah, I would think so. The Mayor only votes on things if there's a tie amongst the other councilcritters.

At 2:48 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's all about the power of appointment. If she's mayor and Jones,Wolford, and Leonard retain, she gets her appointments in.If even one loses, she still holds a majority vote.Plus she would appoint the councilmember who would take her place if she won.Remember, quite a few of Lavallees appointments have been rejected by the current council. If she's working with a majority on her side, she won't have that problem.Like I said previously,it's a stupid move that will invogorate the left into making sure that all three lose their seat, and the mayor retains his.

somebody should take up a collection to get mark konkler some remedial math classes: if bass-jackson wins and one of the three incumbents loses (say leonard to kerrigan's buddy kuhnel), then its a 2-2 vote to fill her old seat.

anon 4:32, Do you know who would cast the tie breaking vote? The mayor. The collection is a good idea though.

I haven't been to Hurricane Kates in a few years. Good place to take kids because you can color on the paper on the tables. Had a great oyster sandwich there once. My wife likes the pizza.

Virginia is way too normal to be Mayor, I guess I should qualify that .... to be "elected" mayor in Eureka.

And to Eric I say .... have you tried the Mac and Cheese at HK's ?

At 5:35 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Normal is what Eureka needs. And locally grown. Bring back Eureka to the locals! Go Virginia!

At 9:21 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree Virgina (and people like her) is what the city needs. The way things have gone in the recent past, Chrissy Kerrigan winning over Rex Bohn, it makes you wonder if Eureka can ever be normal again.

"Bring back Eureka to the locals" YES ! ......... and local has nothing to do wlth "Local Solutions"

At 10:21 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

" it makes you wonder if Eureka can ever be normal again?"

NOPE

At 6:46 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Umm... Kerrigan is pretty darn local.

At 9:08 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes he is local. He is also young and inexperienced, to be making decessions on how to run a city. Does Chris have a real job ? You know one that pays the rent ? Is there any evidence that he has even balanaced his own checking account ?

Mr. Chris is very transparent .. he plans to go another term or so on the city council, he will then try to be appointed, with the backing of BN and/PB, (and if not run) for the board of supervisors, after a couple/three of terms there he will go for the state assembly. His plan is to be a career politician w/o ever having a real job ......... unless maybe he had a paper route as a kid (I doubt it). Mr. Chrissy probably has dreams of being a congressman or something hgher. Mr. Chrissy will say or do anything to get elected (but that is pretty much like any politician). But my concern is that Chrissy has not demonstrated that he has any independant thought ! It was "cute" to have such a young person on the council at first but .....Chrissy likes the spotlight and likes the power.

I'm sure several people in the county jail are local too but it doesn't make them ready or suitable for the City Council.

Just a thought.

At 9:44 AM, Blogger Fred Mangels said...

Well, I actually suggested that to Chris when he came by my house campaigning. I told him he seemed to me to want to be a career politician. He sounded like he'd heard that before and told me that, no, he didn't want to climb the ladder of politics. He said he just wanted to do two terms on the city council and that would be it.

I won't hold him to that. Minds change over time.

At 12:51 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Fred, your first impression was right.

Chris probably has dreams (wet) of being president.

At 1:39 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

9:08AM- Chris has made some pretty strong stands on political subjects locally. He is probably the most independent thinker on the council.

At 1:46 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

anon 1:39 are you Chris or Chirs' mommy ? If you're neither you're .......

At 12:44 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nice inteligent conversation there from anon 1:46 and 9:08. Shows how intelectual the support for Virginia, Jeff and Mike is.

At 8:54 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's not conversation, just a thought. And who is Mike ?

At 9:18 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kerrigan, independent thought? You must be kidding! He's bought and paid for, and acts accordingly, whatever Salzman wants, anti-Arkley, Chris is there, anti-balloon track, Chris is there, jump in a lake, Chris is there.

At 12:02 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

anon 9:18 ........ Yes Yes Yes

It was brought up before ..... What does Kerrigan do for a living ? How does he pay the rent/mortgage/car payment/insurance/pizza ?? Does he live off the $200 or $500 he makes as a councilperson ? Maybe someone could post his election financial disclosure info ? It must be public record ?

Then again how does Saltman make a living ? Does he have a regular business ? Could he be .... Incorporated ?????

I totally agree ! Kerigan couldn't have an independent thought if it crawled up his backside and came out his mouth !

At 12:51 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I take it you know Chris.

At 4:35 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'd say that 9:18 knows Chris.

I've seen Chris, heard Chris talk, heard about Chris, and have seen his "type" before.

And what had Chris done for his community prior to being elected to the city council ?

NOTHING that I've ever heard of. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

At 12:24 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow, it's been 8 hours and nobody has touched this one ?

At 9:14 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Now it's been 16 + hours.

It looks like 4:35 was right !

At 8:37 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Virginia Bass is like Lavalle , they are losers and have done nothing for Eureka . The proof is in the pudding . Another 4 years of these clowns ? No , they don't got my vote .

Local PEST ( Fred ) OK , Gadfly , should get off his fat butt , get off of Welfare and get a job like us working people but , the ole' fart has got nothing better to do then knock someone ( Jerry Droz ) who he's afraid will cut off Fred's ( the local pest ) welfare check & social security check along with his food stamps!
