Operation Yellow Elephant?
I guess that letter Rob Ash wrote to the Eureka Reporter ended up all over the world. A guy from Austria, joins the fray by sending his own letter in to the Reporter. I couldn't really tell at first if he was serious or doing a spoof.
So, I do a quick web search on Operation Yellow Elephant, listed in the writer's signature, and the first thing I find is this blog. The blog deals with, among other things, the issue of those not willing to serve, advocating war.
As best I can tell by a short visit, Operation Yellow Elephant is a satirical blog posing as republican- conservative. Anybody have a different take on that blog?
If you check out the comments there, you'll see that apparently Rob Ash (robash141- who I believe has posted comments here), himself, made some comments. You'll also see that many of the comments are just as nasty as some we get here.

Yeah - Operation Yellow Elephant : COWARD REPUBLICANS!
Let's get those war lovers in there to support GW!
Locally?????
Let's examine.....
Mike's Drive Up... (seventh and broadway)
They are so gung-ho bush it's not funny... they have rush limbaugh quotes up IN their sleazy grease pit of a "drive-up"... (hello Health Department!).... They have Bush/Cheney bumper stickers on their gas-guzzling American crap cars...
Yet the best THEY can do to support the war on terror is have their SON FLIPPING BURGERS AND POURING SHAKES???????
HE SHOULD BE HOLDING A WEAPON in IRAQ, DEFENDING THEIR RIGHT TO LOVE BUSH.
Unless.....
they are weak on terror.....
unless they are traitors.....
unless they only want YOUR son or daughter to die...
instead of flip burgers
What???
Does buger boy have a boil on his bum like rush limbaugh did?
hahaha

AND HERE IT IS: IT"S OFFICIAL:
The Buhne Tribune is run by Rob Arkley and the Eureka Reporter.
The buhne tribune was caught red-handed last week, but has since erased all the comments....
what a wonderfully ARKLEY thing to do. Ever wonder why the BT is so pro-arkley???
Wonder no more! It's published by the Eureka Reporter!!!!!
Poor dave silverbrand.... attacked by his own employer and made fun of in da blogs!
Oh well.... it's teamwork. ya gotta give a little to get a lot.
Kinda like rob arkley's $100,000 donation for bush's last "re-election" party.
Nice try republiCAN'Ts.
No wonder America hates republiCAN'Ts and democRATS so much.
Now we can add the buhne tribune and mike's drive up to the list of YELLOW ELEPHANTS!!!!!
8:31 - Thanks for the laugh. You obviously forgot your meds this morning. You obviously have a significant psycho hangups concerning the BT, ER and Arkley - what happened were you fired by one of them. Or did something happen to you in one of your past lifes?
I would suggest putting foil on your head to block the messages from outer space. As for me, I think I will head to Mike's for a burger at lunch.
Wow ! So enlightening. But don't you just love the double chili cheese burgers at Mike's ? Not to mention the garlic fries ?
And if you knew anything about the restaurant business you would not have made your ignorant uninformed rant about the health department.
You're not a republican or a democrat ? Must be a green or a liberterian ? You oppose free speech ? You oppose local business ? Mike's is locally owned and operated, you know NON Corporation ! If Mikes were a McDonalds or a Burger King that kind of patriotic political stuff would not be allowed on the walls.
But this is America, even if it sometimes doesn't seem that way in Humboldt County, and they have the same right of free speech as you do. I know that pisses you off htat people that don't have the same viewpoint as you are allowed to speak or put a bumper sticker on their car!
BUT, how do you know the guy flipping burgers is the son ? How do you know he's not planning to go in the military? How do you know he already hasn't been in the military, or is in the national guard ? And is it against your Progressive Law that the son of a veteran is required to serve in the military too ? It's not allowed that a son can have different views that his dad ?
8:31am you are a pathetic ignorant piece of shit. What have you done for your country or comumunity ? You are so toasted that you probably consider slandering Arkley as your public service ? What's a matter sissy boy, you unhappy with your place in life ? Your failures are everyone's fault ? Or maybe just Arkelys (funny how you "progressives" bring Arkley into everything).
Thanks for your opinions. Your ranting makes me appreciate my friends even more.
Oh man, it's still an hour and a half until I can get into Mike's for a chili cheese burger.
have a good day DH.
Good morning, and welcome to another day of Fred's Happy Fun Chit-Chat!
Glad to see everyone's so focused on working constructively to solve the world's problems.
I can't wait for the penis jokes to start.
Now if you guys could stop the circle-jerk and get down the to brass tacks, it would be nice.
Ya made me hungry, guess i'll go try Mike's Garlic Fries, just to show my support for freedom of expression.
What the he-- is 8:31 ranting about?
Obviously 8:31 has been at Mike's. The garlic fries are that good, aren't they!
Yes they are good. But I agree the chili cheese burgers are ... magic !
Just another example of the Animal Farming of Humboldt County, freedom of speech, freedom of belief, as long as, and only as long as, you agree with us.
who's us ?
Operation Yellow Elephant is a nonpartisan grass roots citizens' initiative to Support Our President by encouraging his strongest supporters, if qualified, to consider military service.
Since only healthy heterosexuals 41 and under are eligible to volunteer, we are focusing on College and Young Republicans. If a particular patriot is not accepted for enlistment, Your Country Thanks You for stepping forward.
After all, if President Bush cannot convince even his strongest supporters to volunteer, how can he possibly convince the entire country, and the International Coalition of the Willing, to continue to support the Global War on Terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan, (maybe) Iran, and elsewhere?
[Granted, this is also a snark, but it started out of genuine concern that something just wasn't quite right. Hel-lo! Think about it.]

sadly, if you start sending overweight middle aged men (and women) to fight, your casualties are going to be a whole lot higher, whereas, if the wisdom of their years can be used to help fight a smarter war, the casualties might be lowered, as they have been significantly in the last few.
that doesn't change the fact that, in this case, what we are fighting for is a good thing, and the purple dyed fingers of the iraqi women (especially) prove it.
Where are my liberal friends who sent me the pleading emails about the plight of the women in the middle east, especially afghanistan, begging me to "forward this email" to illuminate the plight of the oppressed.
well, i forwarded your email, and what did you expect would happen if someone did pay attention? did you think the leader who chose to stand up to do something about it was going to send chain emails in order to effect a result? or would we use force? or go to war?
i am happy to see girls going to school, women not being beheaded in the soccer stadiums - and i want to know when we are having a champagne party to celebrate the women who risked death walking to the polls in iraq.
i didn't think so.
IMHO
Where're my Women in Black friends?
still waiting
naw, they're down at Brogi's partying

If's not clear that you are responding to Operation Yellow Elephant, but you make some good points. That's why Operation Yellow Elephant focuses exclusively on those eligible to serve.
If military recruiters thank, but don't accept, "overweight middle-aged men," then all those guys are off the hook as far as Operation Yellow Elephant is concerned. By contacting military recruiters and sincerely volunteering their services, they've done what they can.
Given the other major accomplishments you have cited, why are real Americans so reluctant to come forward and volunteer? After all, President Bush won re-election. Has he lost his touch? Why aren't his strongest supporters willing to support him where it really counts, as the accomplishments you have cited surely indicate?
Karl from Operation Yellow Elephant
Because, Karl, Americans in general have gotten too complacent and too fat and content, and too far away from the reality of life and death. Everything is just entertainment.
Islamist fascists saw a guy's head off on live video, and post it all over the internet and no one blinks an eye.
Schoolgirls are beheaded and their heads left on the front porches of police stations in Iraq and no one reports on it here.
Men buried their musical instruments in the sand in Afghanistan, to hide them so that they wouldn't be killed for playing music, and people in this country don't seem to realize the horror of that.
Because for whatever reason, we as a nation have forgotten that we are the good guys.
We talk about how bad it is for us to be the policeman for the world, and don't stop to think about the fact that, if in fact, the rest of the world adopted our system, they would all be better off, women would be alive instead of beheaded, children, girls and boys, could go to real schools that didn't teach Koran propaganda about killing infidels, there wouldn't be mass graves in so many countries we can't even count them anymore.
And I am STILL waiting for my Women in Black friends to prove that they really care about peace and not just want to HATE BUSH.
A champagne celebration for the women who risked death to vote in Iraq. Long overdue.
This is one subject that will cause Bush Republicans to start dithering about things completely different.
They love war just so long as someone else is doing the fighting
They love freedom, and free people in all countries. Free from fear of being kidnapped, beheaded or blown up. Free to hold a job, speak their peace, and yes, even show their face.
And many served, robash141, in many many ways. Do not diminish their service.
Anonymous 11:46-
There are many ways to do the right thing, but we depend on those actually doing them to speak for themselves.
If they won't even do that, how can they help to win the "war of ideas"?
