O.C. Register Looks at Prop. 36

The Orange County Register takes what seems to me is a pretty level- headed look at Prop. 36, the ballot initiative passed a few years ago requiring treatment instead of incarceration for drug offendors.

Prop 36 in the manner that it is implemented in HumCo. is a joke and is not working. Ask anyone in probation.

The local papers use wire feeds from outside sources all the time and surely would have had someone see this. This is obviously a local issue here as well. Any coincidence there was no mention in any Humboldt County media? NO!

Fred, you're the MAN. Its hard to believe I actually agree with Fred. Is this a belated April fools trick?

The article is very realistic, level-headed and even handed. It doesn't give a quick and easy solution to a very difficult problem but focuses on evolving a strategy based on real world experience.

Significantly it argues that incarceration is not a viable way to treat for addiction. But conversely incarcerating certain addicts may be the best way to protect society from crime.

This editorial has no basis in reality for people with first hand knowledge of Prop. 36.

I have first hand knowledge of prop 36 in this county and it is an absolute joke...People are on it that shouldn't be with made up offenses... they were actually drug traffickers and thiefs and were given damn plea bargains.

I believe in helping people that want it, but this is a get out of jail free card that is seriously hurting this and other communities.

Are you people crazy? This is the finest advancement i've seen in a long time. This is the way things should have been long ago and other things such as liquier should have been attacked. These people arn't criminals (well most) but was forced to be looked at as such and live in fear. Live your life enjoy it and realize we all should be able to do the same. DGAF
