Alexander Cockburn on Palin

This commentary from Alexander Cockburn was published in the Eureka Reporter this morning. I couldn't find it on the ER web site, but it was up on Creators. I'll have to say it is a pleasure to read some sound commentary from a lefty that isn't hung up on partisanship. He calls it the way he sees it.

I enjoyed this piece. I don't much like Palin's politics but I suspect I would like her and her family very much. I get tired of the hate machines on both sides. Hate is hate whether it is liberal or conservative.

If liberals (and I'm definitely one) are so right (and I believe we mostly are), why do we need to descend to personality bashing? Why can't we just debate positions and policy?

Alexander is a brilliant person who's opinions are based on his take rather than on the notion of advancing a political agenda. It's a great column.

Coburn has two characteristics that put me off.

First, his smiling face reminds me of a girlfriend I had in the Seventies.

Second, he gets all upset if you pronounce his name the way it is spelled: Cock-burn. He prefers Co-burn.

But I liked (t)his commentary.

Alex Cockburn skewers the fake left Dems with pizazz, it's always a pleasure to read him. He has little patience for the wannabe liberals who say they love people, but seem to hate them in person, especially if they're poor.
