Eureka Acquires More Debt

I guess I'm not the only one who sees the federal stimulus money being used to hire two more police officers for Eureka as not necessarily a good thing. I have to wonder what we'll be hearing when that money runs out and the city has to take over paying for those officer's pay, benefits and pensions?

Well, maybe the feds can print some more money in a couple years and give it to Eureka to keep paying those two cops?

The Sacramento Bee has a map that shows where stimulus money is being used and a list of projects. Looks to me like mostly government spending on the usual stuff so I'm not impressed.

C'mon Fred, use some long-term strategic thinking. You get the two cops up front, right now, and statistically, by the time the grant expires those positions will have been absorbed by attrition, and will not be refilled. Easy.

The stimulus is a joke and a scam - claiming credit for a bunch of 35-hour only jobs, and throwing in a bunch of infrastructure projects that were already slated, meaning those jobs would already have been there - then the fact that as of a few weeks ago, only 2% of the funds had even been ALLOCATED (I think that is up to about 10% now, after the criticism), most of the spending said to be designed to hit around the 2010 elections - all bogus bogus bogus BS voted on by irresponsible brain-dead legislators trying to make it look like they were doing SOMETHING, ANYTHING.

What a sorry state of affairs.

Shame on Mike Thompson. And all the rest who voted on something they hadn't even read, much less considered and discussed.

I suspect we might still be hearing about having to "cut" the two positions.
