Law Enforcement Revenue Enhancement

Radley Balko takes a look at local police departments encouraging the use of red light cameras. While they claim it's for traffic safety, it seems fairly obvious revenue generation is what really matters.

Along that same line, law enforcement agencies in California are finding sobriety checkpoints more and more profitable, according to California Watch. Unlicensed drivers, not drunk drivers, are proving to be the cash cow.

Seatbelt and helmet laws are also nothing but revenue generating devices.
