Hybrid Cars: Time to Buy?

Eric Peters, of Eric Peters Autos, says now might be the time to buy that hybrid car you've been wanting. With gas prices so low, they're having a hard time moving hybrids so deals are being made. That doesn't mean hybrids are necessarily a better of a deal overall. He goes through the numbers, pitting price of gas vs. mileage vs. overall cost.

But, the price of gas might not always be this low.

I am looking forward to gas being .35 a gallon with triple Blue Chip Stamps and a free glass. And an attendant who pumps the gas, washes the windshield and checks the oil.

Wait 1 year (possibly 2) until Tesla has its mid-range electric vehicle hit the market.

That's a $40K car, maybe $10K more than a lot of people would like to pay, but you EASILY make that money back (and more) over the lifetime of the vehicle.

Electric vehicles will dramatically drop in price after Tesla opens its battery gigafactory in Nevada (breaking ground now).
