Ore Processing On the North Spit

I think this is a great idea if it pans out, pardon the pun. A company wants to use some of the old buildings on the North Jetty to process gold ore. When I first started reading about it I figured the environmentalists would fight it tooth and nail. No surprise that Humboldt Baykeeper seems to be gearing up for that. And don't forget about the Coastal Commission.

Great idea and just what we need up here- industry. I'm skeptical of its success. After all, this is California, the State of NO.

You do realize how environmentally unfriendly gold processing is don't you? And how much water it requires?

And that mining is bad for the environment, period. You have to consider the impact of opening up additional remote areas that arent currently mined because of logistics. Bad idea all around I would say.

IF you want to see how bad gold ore processing is, look at what Homestake Mining did to about 400 square miles of land on Morgan Hill Road where it turns into Knoxville Road just a few miles east of Lower Lake, CA over by Lake Berryessa. NOTHING grows there. All of the dirt is toxic with cyanide, mercury and other high level toxins. I'm not against industry, but look at what it is, what it does and decide if you want that stuff washing into Humboldt Bay.

Don't be foolish. Wealth extraction by the corporates. Leaving locals with the mess. Most likely the capital will come from outside our economic hub minimizing wealth benefits . A high profile op like will be shut down by environgovernmentalists before any trickle down will benefit the locals. Lawyers will get that. Don't misunderstand i'm for the local entepeneur governed by the local limitations using guile and effort to eek out a living. Hail humboldt co and their woodcutting ways.

Looks like extreme caution is called for.

I would love employment too come but not at the expense of the environment

So I guess for Fred only jobs and unfettered capitalism are important regardless of the costs?

That's ridiculous and so far from being any possibility in California that it hardly deserves a response.
