Your Homeland Security Dollars At Work
Police in Missoula, Montana cite the Rainbow Family, a group of hippies preaching peace, love and non- violence, as reason for needing a grant of over $254,000 from the Dept. of Homeland Security.
I'm a Libertarian living in Humboldt County, CA. I've lived here in Eureka since 1973 and joined the Libertarian Party in 1992. This blog will mostly focus on local political issues, but I may stray into state and national issues as well, when I can't help myself. This is hardly a DHS issue. Since 2001, Congress (led by Republicans in defense contract states) have been pouring billions into military hardware that the military openly admits it doesn't need. This is why police and fire departments around the country have been getting outfitted with military hardware (guns, armor, vehicles).... because the gross over-spending has created a HUGE surplus that has become difficult to manage. So local municipalities get this stuff for a relative song.
Says more about the mindset of the folks in Missoula than the members of the Rainbow Family. One would think the police department in Missoula might be more upset about the various Neo Nazi and skin head groups in their area than a bunch of nonviolent hippies...
