2015 Reader's Choice Awards
The Times- Standard has started their 2015 Best of the North Coast nominations. It's only available online this time. You'll remember that's where you vote for you favorite local business and recreational facilities. T-S, managing editor, Kimberly Wear explains. The link is at the top left of their home page.

By having this poll online means that the Times-Standard will have the e-mail addresses of those who participate for future marketing campaigns plus it lets the paper know your selections. I will pass this year.
Those type of contests are subject to massive gaming of the system. I place no stock in the T-S, Journal and LoCO best-of competitions. This is merely failed journalism's idea of civic engagement. They don't know any better.
You are right. Such contests are simply a way to sell display ads to the businesses selected as the "best of".
Remember last year when the winner was a Holiday Inn that hadn't even opened yet? They never explained that one away.
