An E- Cigarette Mythbuster
Great links being posted over at the Wilit's News' letters to the editor I wrote about the other day. Found a new blog among them. The Rest of the Story is written by what seems to be an anti- smoking zealot.
Dr. Michael Siegel testified in the lawsuit years ago against the tobacco industry. Now he's not happy with the attacks on e- cigarettes and vaping. He doesn't mince words when he sees research as slanted or falsified. Regarding a study showing e- cigarettes making it harder to quit smoking, he writes:
"The conclusions of this article are completely invalid, and the article's description of its own findings borders on being deceitful...". That's rather mild compared to some of his other stuff.
" The rest of the story is that this poorly conducted study is going to do great public health damage. It is going to add to the propaganda campaign that aims to demonize e-cigarettes, and which is using severely biased research to try to discredit the solid evidence that e-cigarettes can and do help many smokers quit smoking. This is further evidence that ideology has become more important than science in the modern anti-smoking movement.".
Good stuff, and that last sentence pretty much says it all. I've added his blog to my list.

only on what you've written, chewing tobacco can help people quit smoking as well. Only trading one form of delivery for another.
Nicotine is a toxic alkaloid commonly used as a pesticide.
Have you tried to quit smoking Fred?
When I quit smoking I used various e cigs for 6 months before quitting all together. I think the e cig was a huge help. It's so weird though, some people are STARTING on e cigs. It'll be interesting to see where this trend goes. I think regulation is needed, I mean no meaningful health study can be done given the variety of juices available. There are claims of toxic chemicals by some studies, but like I said, given the variety of products available those few reports don't likely represent reality.
Some are saying people aren't starting on e- cigs and that's fabricated. As far as the chemicals, you have to wonder about that, too. That one about formaldehyde was supposedly totally bogus as the heat used to create the formaldehyde was way beyond the heat used in e- cigs.
Sounds like Fred has selective listening skills... at best
I know that a large part of cigarette addiction is oral fixation. We have two other common nicotine delivery systems, gum and patch, yet it doesn't adequately replace the tactile sensation of a cigarette. If it were just nicotine delivery someone could develop a pump similar to an insulin pump to meter out a dose.
Fred, part 2 is ready for viewing. It covers the nicotine addiction myth, brilliantly informative. http://youtu.be/YmPL0ldKoz4
There is more formaldehyde in the common breath than ever found in an eCig. There is formaldehyde in vaccines, to kill bacteria. A Vaper actually exhales less natural formaldehyde than the average non-smoking human being.
Reaching for an eCig instead of a real tobacco cigarette should be applauded by those who promote the dastardly evils of tobacco cigarettes.
Trading one form of delivery for another? Often used as a pesticide? More addicting than Heroin?
Thanks for the tips. I will march down the candy isle of my local store, purchase packages of Nicorette gum with those delicious graphics of water droplets dancing on fruit, and make up a potion spritz for my plants. Actually, if I recall correctly, I don't have to purchase at all, I only need to visit my local elementary school for free handouts by the anti-smoking foot soldiers. There's something wrong with that picture, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Nicotine, Heroin, free nicotine gum to kids, raising taxes, ... let me think on this, something's sure to come to mind soon.
