Local News War Escalates
In a frantic effort to stay in the race to be the predominant local newspaper, the Times- Standard started its own blog. See, Hank [Sims], I told you you should have taken advantage of that blog you started. It's not too late.
They've just started out but, from what I see of the T-S bloggers so far, it doesn't look like I'll have to worry about any competition with my hard hitting commentaries. Blog on, T-S. Question is, will the Eureka Reporter and perhaps the North Coast Journal follow suit?

I don't know if this has much to do with the race between T-S and the ER, or if it’s just a matter of our technological world. The San Francisco Chronicle has had a blog for a while now.
But this does make me wonder, after all the hubub about letters to the editor - can you post anonymously, or will local news blogs track IPs and write exposés...
Could be, hubcap. Sacramento Bee has its Dan Weintraub blog and the Santa Rosa Press Democrat has a forum. At the same time, it makes you wonder since the T/S changed their TV schedule format seemingly as a result of what the E/R did. There is some one upmanship involved here, it would seem.
Interesting tie in you make with the letters to the editor and all.
It looks like the blog is locked down and you won't be able to post to it until your comments are approved. IP tracking can be played with, so don't think people are going to be making rookie mistakes like Salzman again.
I just added my two cents about TSBlogs.com. What were they thinking? That dog ain't gonna hunt.
