Yet Another PAC

Doesn't the Eureka Civic Association have a nice ring to it? It sounds so...well...CIVIC! That's the latest Political Action Committee Eureka's left wingers have formed. Do we really need yet another PAC in this county? Oh well. Each to their own.

Their website is one nearly blank white page with a couple small paragraphs and a way to send money. I guess this David Ogden is an IRV proponent and has been around around Eureka 15 years or so. Anyone know anything else about him. Sounds from "his" endorsements, he's just another far lefty. It's amazing what press releases the T-S will uncritically print.

Well, if there's no information, how could they be critical?

Since there is no information what should be warning right there. For a couple bucks, anyone can set up a website and sendout a press release.

Seems that Morsemedia has a contract with https://joker.com/, which leads back to CSL Computer Service Langenbach GmbH. Which means that Morsemedia isn't just hosting these sites, but has done the complete set-up and HTML work. I'd also like to point out that some of these sites use paypal, which is a large faceless corp (owned by eBay) and the HTML headers seems to follow each other in a pattern.

It's pretty impressive how a group of 15-20 people can play at having such a large following.

Flemming will get things done.

Sure she is a bulldog who gets down to business. When that happens, you sometimes make enemies. This is not a time to sit around embracing each other in circle meditation and singing "Where Have All The Flowers Gone".

We need to get things done. No, not for the "aristocracy" as many of you fear. But for the working class, common, everyday families. Leaders from a business background tend to have a visionary sense that drives an economy and provides for a community by creating jobs. And not Americorps seasonal jobs eradicating a few acres of pampas grass and building interpretive signs for trails that no one walks on.

You can't always have committee meeting after committee meeting after committee meeting after committee meeting after committee meeting to finally release a study
that says we should throw up our hands in fear of reprisal from special interest groups who make their money off of frivilous lawsuits. That, after spending a ridiculous amount of money that went into binders filled with pie charts and pretty PowerPoint presentations.

We need to put common people to work, offer them affordable housing while keeping the temptations of making money through elicit means away from their door.

A vote for Nancy Flemming is a start.

Flemming does NOT belong to Pierson or the Indian casinos, unlike her opponent.

We'll all find out in three days that the Arkley's have contributed a grand total of $0 to the above candidates.

Want to venture a guess how much Bill Pierson has contributed to the "slate"?

Bill Pierson has already contributed $1,000 to LaVallee and $8,590 to Bonnie and that's only through May 2006.

At 9:53 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I gotta give him a point for wanting to put an end to the pledge of allegiance in council chambers. If I remember his rant correctly,he said that would be one of his first priorities as mayor. There certainly is no separation of church and state in that room.A prayer leading into the pledge is innertwining church and state. As an atheist it's fairly offensive, but I live with it.And I don't say the pledge during wartime(and under god ever).I certainly wouldn't object to seeing it go.Council chambers are for solving community issues, not glorifying our country,or any god.

Mr. Esquan, now you're punctuating like an anti-Droz. What does this signify?

Agreed, although, despite being an agnostic, I don't really care about the God thing. I just don't like the idea of kids (or anyone else) being indoctrinated with an allegiance to The State.

I've never understood the conservatives who support the Pledge, sometimes even going so far to suggest it be REQUIRED that kids recite it at school each day. That, and considering the guy who came up with the idea, Frances Bellamy, seems to be a authoritarian- socialist type, you'd think they'd distance themselves from it.

Interesting read on Wikipedia about the pledge.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance

One thing new to me was busting the nazi salute rumor, assuming it's true. I'd often heard that kids were required to give a Roman Salute- same as the Nazi salute- when reciting the Pledge back in the days of old.

Apparently the salute used was a bit different, with the palm of the hand facing upwards, rather than down. Made good propaganda against the Pledge, though. You'll see the widely distributed picture of the kids doing it on Wikipedia. I always assumed it was a Nazi salute. Looking at it now, I still can't tell which way the palm of the hand is.

I don't get the connection between being religiously agnostic and being opposed to the Pledge. Is there a reason an atheist or agnostic should be a supporter of the Pledge?

At 2:27 PM, Blogger Fred Mangels said...

Oh, you do seem to specify "forced to say the the pledge". Is forced the important part of what you're saying?

At 2:33 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, I wasn't thinking of any connection. I just think both things are cool. Being an agnostic signifies a certain degree of intellectual honesty. And being against forcing kids to say the pledge shows a real commitment to social freedom. That's cool!

At 2:43 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No doubt! But to be ruthlessly honest, I think that to really know anybody is to both love them and hate them. But probably to love them mostly, if you look deeply enough.

At 3:43 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So you are against the "PLedge" to our country. How about when our Council is sworn in, or the Govenor, or the President...should they have to take an oath, or pledge to honor our Constitution? And while we're at it why have a Constitution which embody laws that we are all constrained with, but entitled to share the benifits of?
For those who serve in our Military, National Gaurd, or Law Enforment, should they have to pledge to protect us? And how would we feel if these folks simply were hired to do the right thing, but never had to take the "pledge"?
We all have the right to or not to do any of pledging or swearing to, but how would we feel if the jury we were depending on would not feel that they were "Sworn" or pledged to follow our laws and the more basically the moral and ethical laws that folks have died to perserve for us? It seems to me the those who pledge to uphold our laws and the Constitution of our Country are the ones I would want sitting on my jury, if the occasion arose.

At 4:22 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"Pledging" to uphold laws and "pledging" allegiance to a country are two different things. And do you think making the "pledge"really prevents any lying? If anything it only sequesters it.

At 6:43 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Excellent points! 3:43 you're really flying off the handle there. We were talking about not forcing children to make the pledge of allegiance. And then you try to equate that with judges and military and governors and juries not making oaths.

At 6:47 PM, Blogger Fred Mangels said...

Right on the money, esquan. Pledges for the Constitution, and such, mean nothing now. Just look at what the federal and state governments are doing now.

Any Pledges people do now are more of an act of office, with no consequences for violating the Pledge.

3:43: Do you think young people should be indoctrinated, early on, with an allegiance to The State? I don't think they should. Enough said.

At 7:31 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

used to be i agreed with that statement, fred, but given what we are seeing now with the hate america first indoctrination, i have changed my mind. we are the greatest country on earth, and there is nothing wrong with being proud of it, and yes, saying we pledge our allegiance to that which our country stands for, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the pursuit of happiness, the lack of a class system, the ability to achieve whatever we reach for. we need these small things that hold us together.
IMHO

Well let's see, "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America"... would you rather teach the children to respect something else? Maybe their ipod, mtv, or someone else's flag? It seems like lots of folks have died for their belief in the Flag and all it represents...
"to the republic for which it stands" we live in a republic not a democracy, and maybe children (and their parents)should understand the difference. Our responsibility to elect those who have integrity of purpose, and hold to our mores is our individual responsibility. If our pledges are meaningless, how did they ever become a part of our great nation, and if we did not have a respect for our system of laws and values, what is left...oh I forgot...myspace, blogs, and ipods...

Or we could just let them grow up and respect nothing, but the good life and the bottom line.

"One Nation under God"...I have to say that part bothers me, and I remember when it was added...but in my heart I substitute the "God" part with "truth", and it works for me...'
"indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"...is it not the most important phrase of all? Without our membership and participation to keep our Nation whole, our liberty and justice will surely become the stuff of remembrance...343

We may have a great nation and all that good crap but how can we NOT elect liars and cheats and sodomists and pedophiles and people who hide their stolen loot in the freezer? Politics and the people who are stoopid enough to engage themselves oh I lost my train of thought!

Its time to clean up some messes and we have to vote for a few good people who want to get their fingernails dirty and take on some projects that will have lasting impact. Think. Vote. Make your kids Vote.

The Neely - Bass - Jackson regime has fouled up Eureka along with The Times - Standard for years . They are all part of the R.C.A.A. and rake in millions every year to bring in more ex - felons and drug rehabbers into , Eureka . They want to dominate , Eureka and won't allow anyone to stand in their way . They put poor Jerry Droz behind Bass intentionally on the front page . Droz wants the people to run things . They want themselves to rule the City along with the R.C.A.A. Hmmmmmmm , that's not exactly what i would call freedom of the press now is it ?

I am not pledging my allegiance to this Country until we pull out of Iraq and they give us our rights and freedoms back . Our right to choose threw the freedom of the election process . They took 215 away from us although we the people voted for it . More and more of our freedoms are being taken away . The Country should not run this City or its people . The people should run this City and Country .
The government gives millions to the R.C.A.A. and they want domination over , Eureka . NO OTHER WAY !

More ranting as you call it.......Jerry Droz did not accept any bribe money from anyone to be persuaded or coerced by anyone . His highest priorities are to serve you the people , not some hardware store or developer .Your right...The Times - Standard does not want him to win and are trying everything to make him loose . Your right again , they are all trying to dominate Eureka so they can get paid to bring in more free housing for ex - felons .
