GO MOSSMAN!

Or so Hank Sims, and I'll assume others at the North Coast Journal, are saying. Looks like their pick for the appointment to Eureka City Council, Ward 2, is local gadfly, Moss Bittner.

I'll have to admit to being familiar with the name, but that's about as far as my knowledge goes. I guess I should pay more attention.

It is kind of interesting that, yet again, we have someone switching residences to run for office. Interesting if only because of the little stink that was raised about it with Larry Glass. Certainly not unusual. I get the impression this sort of thing goes on all the time.

Hoping the committee doesn't fall for the New Residence crap-the voters approving Larry is something else.

For the record, that bit was in no way intended as an endorsement of the Mossman. It was intended to be an exploration of his candidacy, and also a vehicle for the carpetbag-based scoop that has become one of my sub-specialties. Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear. The white zone is for loading and unloading only.

Though I hear that others read the column the same way you did, Fred. Oh well. And that doesn't make this comment an anti-endorsement, either.

But Hank; How could you not endorse Bittner. He went to Harvard, you know?

You don't say!

Hank:

Everyone who I've mentioned it to seemed to miss the carpetbagger angle and focused on you wanting to adopt the guy. Any attempt at humor fell flat.

Hank is in love. He likes the intellectual type. Though with Moss he is in for a surprise.

There is no flipping way Moss Bittner will get appointed....no way....Virginia is going to appoint someone who has actually done something. Walking on the rail road tracks for 3 days doesn't qualify, one Chris Kerrigan is enough. No way Moss man, end of story.

Hank,

Only you can see the perma-smirk on your face, it doesn't carry over into print.

I read that piece as a 100%, unqualified endorsement. fwiw.

Sims ignores the blogland venom of the Councilman's mother.

Not for nothing is Mrs. Leonard named "Barb."

Sheesh Hank...

There are ten other people who put their hat's in.

What do you know about them? I have gotten used to the idea that you are better informed and more meticulous than the rest.

I guess I was wrong.

Perhaps Virginia prefers rolling stones and that which they fail to gather.

C'mon dude, you can do better than this....there is a reponsibility that comes with those barrels of ink.

Apart from your endorsement, Hank (regardless of how you put the chalk to the sidewalk)

...do you think that Moss would win an election?

He doesn't bring much to the table but opinions and angst.

But well....so do you.

Ah...perhaps that explains it!

But you've forgotten -- this isn't an election!

True, but probably almost as much, if not more, interest than would normally be seen in an appointment.

I am a fan of Moss because os his commitment, but I also think the railroad is not feasible so I think his service on the Council is not a good long term gain for the City or Humboldt.

I could be wrong.

Moss has no chance. Why? A Hank Sims endorsement is the political equivalent of "the kiss of death." The North Coast Journal used to be an OK weekly. Now the NCJ is nothing more than a sad joke.

Keep in mind; Hank said it wasn't an endorsement, although many took it as one. Maybe that's my fault?
