Our very own Steve Lewis takes a shot at anonymous bloggers and commentors in today's Eureka Reporter. I still have to wonder, as I've mentioned before, just how many people visit blogs or are even aware of what they are.

Hey, Steven actually wrote somthing I agree with! He even managed to (barely) resist the temptation to blame only those who are on the opposite side from him on whatever issue. Good job, Steven! I really mean that, btw.
Name-calling and verbal abuse comes from anons on all sides of the social and political debate, and is not unique to any ideology.
(Of course I recognize the irony in posting this anonymously, but I am not being abusive!)
It's a lot like driving a car- you can do and say things to strangers that wouldn't be possible face to face. It is what it is, and I see no reason to change it. It's easy enough to disregard the kooks.

HR, and his "What's happening" blog is nothing more than him linking to other extremist activist web sites. He does not have an original thought or opinion. If he responds it is usually just very immature rant.
The HR's main theme is 911 was a right wing conpsiracy, jews are evil, Israel is evil, and all U.S. military personnel are murderers and worse.
I think many anonymous bloggers post anonymously to say anything about anyone and be insulting but many others also remain anonymous because of their job or who they are and don't insult anyone and at times even post inside news that probably would never be posted if their name was attached.
Buhne Tribune has not been posting lately. Now that we know who that is I wondered what has happened. Does Eureka want him to stop?? I don't think he posted any "insider knowledge" re City of Eureka but may have gotten good insider tips as at times he was ahead of the newspapers in posting something.
That a newspaper finds opinion pieces about anonymity online in this day and age says a lot about the dinosaurs in charge over there. This is so 1995.
Steve Lewis has been grinding this same old ax for a long time. But the truth is that he has been posting anonymously quite a lot and is the master of a double standard regarding this issue and others. But, as long as he can find someone else to point and shout at he will feel comfortable living with his own short comings, I suppose.

Anon, you wouldn't know truth if it bit you. I post with my name visible because I believe we have a right to know who we are dealing with, especially those who are using blog anonymity to carry on libelous attacks that would otherwise land the anonymous liar in court in short order.
That's a red herring Steve. If someone libels you "anonymously" on this blog, you could through the court system have a very good chance of identifying the individual. So libel isn't an issue with anonymity.
That's what ticks me off most... people who go online and them scream that the online world should change to meet their own sensibilities. If you want identification, then start your own forum and require people to visit you in person with a legal ID. Don't complain that the rest of the world is wrong and you are right and everyone should lower themselves to satiate your personal curiosity.

Anons turn blogs ugly by using them like kids do empty walls in bathrooms. Many anons do add to the information flow that blogs are good for but in my experience now, unfortunately the majority of anon posters are not really here to contribute to the community's knowledge. Most anon posters are here to try to damage someone's reputation because they can get away with it and not get caught. The situation would change instantly like it did briefly for a few days when anons thought their posts could be traced back to them.
