CO2: The "Pollutant"
Fun read on Carbon Dioxide from Jude Wanniski. It includes,
"... I wondered if there were one mile of greenhouse gas, how much of that would be the result of all of man’s doing. I found that out of 5,280 feet, mankind contributes five-eighths of an inch...".
Quotable quote:
The future will show all this anxiety about global warming and climate change to be the biggest case of mass hysteria in the history of mankind.- Fred Mangels

And I am SAVIN' that quote, fred, 'cause you are RIGHT!
Merry Christmas!
Fred and Rose. Love at first sight.
Or maybe it is the blind leading the blind.
So you see an article written in 2001 and you believe every word in it?
I too will save Fred's quote.
For laughs.
Let's see the methodology of that figure. The article gives nothing concrete regarding that figure. My calculation:
pre 1750 ppm 280
current ppm 383
This is 37% increase, or 1953.6 rhetorical feet of a mile.
Lets take a wildly conservative view that humans are only responsable for 3 ppm increase over the past 250 years:
3ppm out of 383ppm total is .78%, or humans caused a .78% increase in co2
This, in rhetorical lengths of a mile, would be 41.184 feet.
So by you quoted figure, people can only be responsable for .000000986 of the mile, or .00101ppm of co2 in the atmosphere.
Numbers don't lie, people lie with numbers. The context of 'mankind contributes' as cover for manipulation does neither you nor me any help dealing with this issue.

I am pained when I see the Earth and the air that we breathe being disrespected. I don’t like the fact that we have massive mats of floating pollutants choking our oceans. I don’t like the way that we are managing our natural resources. We are over utilizing some and underutilizing others. But, the most annoying thing to me is the mass hysteria over global warming. Global warming may or may not be happening, but it is provable that it is a natural cycle, and warming is a precursor to an Ice age. Mankind has little, to no affect on global warming. The fact that man has little to do with it is unfortunate, because that also means that there is little that we can do to stop it.
We need to stop being distracted with the self-flagellation of feeling guilty over the trend toward more global warming, and start concentrating on what we might do to stabilize the Earth IF possible. Also there is a rumor out there that there has been no warming for the past four years. Why isn’t anyone making note of that?
