Fred's Humboldt Blog
I'm a Libertarian living in Humboldt County, CA. I've lived here in Eureka since 1973 and joined the Libertarian Party in 1992. This blog will mostly focus on local political issues, but I may stray into state and national issues as well, when I can't help myself. Wow, legalize pot and make tobacco illegal. This guy is a moron.
That would lead to revolution. When the Soviet Union was collapsing the food shortages didn't result in even peaceful protests. But when they couldn't renew their supply of cigarettes it resulted in riots.
Yeah, but a lot more people probably smoked back then, so the riots had more of an impact.
I've been hoping the drug cartels would get into smuggling tobacco into this country. Might make it cheaper and more widely available, but not if tobacco was made entirely illegal. Then it might end up more expensive, but at least the government wouldn't get the tobacco taxes.
Then they'd have to go after everybody else to make up for the lost tobacco taxes and the people that voted for the tobacco tax increases over the years would get their well deserved payback.
