Earthquake Photo Needed

I'm looking for a photo of the downed 101/ Tompkins Hill Road overpass from the November 8, 1980 earthquake. Shame of it all is that this report on the quake apparently had the photo, but that was likely before computers were so common. No links to the picture I need.

Can anyone find the picture? Times- Standard search doesn't seem to be working this morning.

Addendum: Still can't find the picture, but I did find this Santa Rosa Press- Democrat story on the guy who drove the Volkswagon off the bridge.

Ha Ha I don't have a picture but I knew a guy who left "Herman's Club" which later became the "Whaler's Inn" and drove OFF the bridge after the collapse because it was dark and he was DRUNK. He didn't get hurt that bad . . .

"Henchman Of Justice" says,

HOJ remembers seeing a local picture in the local paper at the time of a volkswagon that went over or something.

Anyhow, maybe the Humboldt County Library in up the stairs, to the left wing where the microfiche is kept. Maybe the Times Standard or Humboldt Times (can't remember exactly).

Library = where kids used to learn shit.

I think that the archives of the San Francisco Chronicle has a picture of this overpass as it was front page news in this paper.

Thanks. I'll check the Chron. I remember seeing it in the Times- Standard back then.

I was working at Humboldt Bay Power Plant as a security guard the night that happened and remember the ambulances heading south maybe 20 minutes after the quake.

Turned out one of the cars that went into the void had just left my supervisors house after having dinner. As my supervisor later related it after having spoken with the guy in the hospital, they were driving along without a worry in the world, then all of the sudden "...there was nothing there...">, and off the freeway they went.

There ya go! I actually found that first one early on, except there was just the picture with no information as to where or when it happened so I couldn't use it. Thanks so much.

Look in your email. Sent from a hotmail.com address. Somebody scanned the T-S picture & posted it in the Facebook "Remember In Eureka When" group. GWB
