Green Factionalism Heats Up?

I can't help but wonder if this story about the Arcata Greens retracting the resolution (or whatever it was called) against that corporate contribution initiative is indicative of a factional battle within their group heating up. Or, maybe this is more of what's been going on all along and it's just now coming out in the open?

I get the impression the Greg Allen/ Charles Douglas faction is the middle- of- the- road, closer to the mainstream of society bunch and the others, the Meserve/ Cobb faction, is clearly the hard Left faction of the group. How far apart those factions are, I don't know.

I would think it's a safe bet that the Meserve/ Cobb faction has the big lead in numbers within the local Greens, but you never know; The Eureka Greens were leaning against supporting that initiative as well. How many people show up to the Eureka Greens meetings?

The Greens are smart enough to see the fatal flaws in this "initiative" while Patrick Riggs (aka LocalSolutions), as the Democratic Party, embraced and endorsed it on behalf of all the good democrats in Humboldt County.

What's Riggs' agenda? What's LocalSolutions agenda? It's not tough to figure it out.

Charles Douglas no longer registered as a Green? Unbelievable!

I wonder what he's registered as now; a card carrying member of the Constitution Party?

Open debate in a local political group, who knew such things were possible? Theres certainly no debate in Democracy Unlimited or the groups it controls, they meet in secret.

I should amend that tosay that the Greg Allen faction is smart enough to understand what is wrong with that initiative. Meserve is not.

Will Humboldt County have THREE different Green parties soon? This is getting, well, odd.

Actually, anon.r.mous - FOUR (plus)There are certain local greens that have been hiding as "dems" and are slowly showing their colors. They are on the local Humboldt democratic central committee. Did anyone see HC democratic central member Lauren Oliver's letter to the editor in the ER? Or Patrick Rigg's support of the anti corp initiave as well as his "founding member" status with "Local Solutions." Anyone read his statements in the Local Solutions rag that has been peddled around these parts as of late? Why would the local dems under the control of local solution's Patrick Riggs blindly support the anti-corp intitiave even in the face of questions directly asked concerning its obvious unconstitutionality? I guess the blues don't mind being hijacked by the greens.

Did anyone see the TS article about the rift in the Arcata Greens over the anti-free speech intiative.

"Goplen later apologized for his vote to oppose the measure. He said he was swayed at the time by arguments made by Allen, an attorney."

"He said to question the ordinance on technical grounds is not appropriate, because it is new and revolutionary."

"”The purpose of the ordinance is to test what is possible, to build a movement to take back our democracy,” he said."

Arcata City Councilman Dave Meserve agreed.

”We decided as Greens that it was a good idea to get active and to reaffirm the Green values to the Arcata chapter,” he said."

Well if this is what the Greens stand for their cause is doomed and their judgment even worse. What is truly troubling to the point of being disgusting is that the local Dems jumped on the bandwagon for this unconsitutional initiative having abandoned all reason and the democratic principles that the party once stood for - I am going to have to reregister - calling the opposition to constitutionally prohibited suppression of speech 'technical grounds' is an embarrassment and both local committees ought to be forced to re-read the consitution (assuming that they can read) or should be taken back behind the barn and smacked around with a constitutional law book.

You can re- register using the link at the top of the Humboldt LP web page. I understand they send you a registration card already filled out and you sign, date and return it. Don't forget to check off Libertarian Party as your party affiliation.

Can you imagine being swayed over the legality of some initiative by a lawyer? Thank goodness weve got undereducated goons from DUHC to show us the (false) light! Damn the free speech, full speed ahead!
