Santa Rosa Bottleneck Fix Pushed Back

Those of us who, either by choice or necessity, have to drive to the Bay Area on occasion, will be disappointed to learn the widening of Highway 101 in the Santa Rosa area is having some problems. They've pushed back the finish date for various sections of the road by at least a couple years.

Cost over runs are also making it much more expensive and they don't have enough money to pay for the work that was planned. What I'd like to know, and what this article from the Santa Rosa Press- Democrat doesn't explain, is just what's behind the cost over runs? They refer to skyrocketing construction costs, but just what exactly do they mean by that?

I just got back from the bay area. just over 7 hours from Bezerkeley to Eureka. Bumper to bumper from University Avenue to Windsor. That was on Friday.

What amazes me is that some part of the freeway system there is always under construction. So even with improvements you never get to appreciate it because something else is ripped up and backing up traffic.
