It's Raining

Finally some decent rain. Rain is good. I love it.

Update: Maybe I spoke to soon? Looking at Doppler Radar, which is something I check all the time during the rainy season, it looks like there's some strong areas of rain along the coast, but they don't look too deep. I hope this isn't just going to pass right over us.

It looked good earlier. Of course, thing about rain is it can develop on the spot, as far as Doppler Radar goes. It doesn't always move across the screen. I've seen no rain over an area one time I look at it, and then all kinds of rain pockets a half hour later.

We'll just have to see how this develops. I know the Weather Service has some advisory out for rain with possible flooding in some areas, but they always do that. I think they just need to cover their ass and always assume a worst case scenario.

Del Norte county is expected to get up to 3 inches, with up to one inch farther south. It's going to be a wet and miserable day, especially with the roads being so slick with the first rain. Be careful on the roads and in the rivers.

Another update: From the looks of the radar now, the rain is petering out. Bummer.

Living most of my life in So. Cal., I LOVE the rain. It replenishes the forest, the streams, and me. It is the life giving element that we all should revere and cherish. How long would our beloved Redwoods last without it? There is a reason that primitive cultures worshiped rain gods. If our planets weather patterns are changing, and we know that this is the case, then we have to adapt to the changes, and look into the future and find the technologies and implement the policies that will help make us safe.

Fred, stop looking at the computer and try your window. That doppler shows no rain in Humboldt. It's pouring outside my window right now.

The torrential downpour seems to have abated-Bright and Sunny here in downtown Eureka.

I know. Damned it all. I might have to actually do something now.

Weather.com shows a 100% chance of measureable precipitation today. Oh well, I guess there's still time, but radar doesn't show anything right now but widely scattered showers.

Hate these false alarms.

It would be awful to rain on the big fundraiser at the Rescue Mission-Eric Kirk will not be leading his pack in the wasabi chugging contest afterall.

Looks like a seven headed beast, breathing fire and menace. Beware Eureka, A cloud of Locusts will descend from Kneeland to the east, the bald hills to the north, the mouth of the Eel River to the south! Together they will converge with the Seven Headed beast from the far east and bring an end to your ungodly town! You have been warned, and you better look to the Lord for guidance, not Jim Bernard! Eureka, youve had the wrath of the Lord coming for quite some time. You have made your bed, time to BURN in it!

Wow the Arkleys sure know how to throw a party!!

There were so many people at the Wharfinger tonight-they had to put tents out in the parking lot. It was so cool; there were rain gutters and the rain coming off the tents down those gutters looked like waterfalls.

The FOOD! OMG! Stuffed jalapeno peppers, huge tortillas with chicken, peppers, guacamole, fresh salsas; There was fresh sushi, oysters of all kinds-big ones that were BBQ'd, little kumomotos with this fabulous sauce! Coffees, ice creams, sorbet, little cakes, really good wines, beer, sodas, bottled water...I am stuffed!

The best part was a computer video of what Marina Center will look like complete-that was the capper! There were cars parking and people walking back and forth-not much action at the Home Depot but the parking lot was pretty full (but not 'stuffed' like Target is every day.) I hope this video goes up on their website so you can see it!

You couldn't tell it was raining at all tonight-there must have been over a thousand people all clammoring for a look at the video and laughing, really enjoying themselves more than I have seen in a really long time.

Thanks Rob and Cherie!
