Another Piece Of The Conspiracy?

Our very own, Eric Kirk, had his commentary on the latest Gallegos controversy published today in the Eureka Reporter. With hard- hitting commentary like that, it wouldn't surprise me if he gets asked to be a guest columnist for the E/R. Funny thing is, I can't seem to find his commentary anywhere on their online opinion page.

Same with a commentary that was in the Reporter yesterday. I wanted to comment on a guest commentary by Tom Peters. He was opposed to the Marina Center because it would make Eureka look like everywhere else. That commentary didn't show up online, either.

If I didn't know better, I couldn't help but think these omissions might be part of The Conspiracy.

Well, my letter was less about the controversy itself, and more about the hysteria surrounding it. I didn't realize letters got published so quickly. Still not used to the e-mail medium.

The Eureka Reporter publishes letters within a day or two. I don't know if the Times- Standard's any different now than the last time I sent a letter in to them but it could take up to two weeks, seems to me, before my letters showed up there.

It's been a while since I sent one in, though.

Also, the TS rations letters on the same subject, politics or whatever, spreading them out not printing them as they come in.

The TS also delays letters until their content doesn't matter anymore because people forget what they were referencing to begin with.

I see more of a controversy with the Marina Center letter not getting published. Next month and a half is critical.

It will be interesting to see what type of press the CREG presentation will receive. My guess is that the TS will give it more of a chance. The ER will probably just compare details of the Marina Center with the CREG proposal, such as their restoration.

The ER will show its true bias when it comes to all of its endosements. There is no way it will differ from all of Arkley's interests and candidates.

Why, there's no conspiracy, Fred! Everything is as it should be. God is in His heaven and all is right with the world. Have another beer, and keep watching the trusty T.V. News.

Remember, they're your friends. They're here to help.

I've used it consistantly for about 5 years now, but I'm still not used to the speed by which things happen. Used to be I would write a letter to the editor and drop in in the mail and expect to see it a week or so thereafter.

Yeah. I've actually not written a few letters because I figured, by the time my letter was published, no one would remember what I was referring to.

I've heard people complain that sometimes the T-S doesn't publish their letters. I believe they've published all of mine.

I thought a couple weren't published. Then I got to thinking that somehow I missed those two after one of mine got published a couple years ago.

I read the morning paper and didn't notice anything. When the wife came home from a walk she mentioned her sister liked the letter I wrote to the T-S. I said, "When? Which one?". She says, "The one in today's paper..".

Yep. Picked the paper back up and there it was. Don't know how I missed it.

Missed one that our very own Leonidas sent in years ago. I never saw his but then noticed someone writing in response to a letter he sent in on gas prices, or some such.

Anyway, since I've missed seeing at least two letters, I'll never accuse them of not publishing mine.

Does that make me an anybody?

Of course, Jeff. A popular local musician and College of the Redwoods staff dude, how could you be anything but an anybody?

LOL! Damn, you do have a way with words sometimes, Fred.

Hey it's great! On Fred's blog I can be an anybody too, even when I'm an anonymous nobody!

No, you're not an "anybody". You're just someone that posts here anonamously. Which gives you little credence.

Well! So you're saying that everybody who posts here anonymously has little credence! You nonanonymous elitist!

But wait -- you said I'm not an anybody. So if I'm not just anybody, I must really be somebody! Better watch out Fred, you have no idea just what somebody you may be talking to! I might be your mother for all you know!

P.S. Are you over the flu yet? Are you getting enough to eat?

That would be pretty cool since she died back in '74, right after I moved up here.

This is your mother, Fred. I'm calling you from the other side. Are you keeping your feet warm? Now remember, don't skip your breakfast, and please cut down on the coffee.

Nice try. If you were really on the other side you'd know I don't drink coffee.

I wrote a letter to the Times-Standard a couple years ago about some minor irritation and found out a couple days later that I had the facts of the matter all wrong. I'm glad that it was never printed. Of course, who knows, it may be printed tomorrow.

I think Bob Huck has a fun blog. Interesting because he presents a lifestyle I'm totally foreign to:

He seems to center his life in Old Town Eureka, a place I can count on one hand the times I pass through in a year, and music, something I'm not all that involved in other than picking what radio station to listen to when I'm in the truck.

I need to add his blog to my list one of these days. Just haven't got around to it.

Hey, thanks Fred and anonymous number 2. I guess ya can't please everybody. I no longer try. You got a great blog here, Fred. Very good writing. I'm not a writer but when I got my digital camera last year I thought that a photo blog would be a great way to put it to use. A little touch of Old Town Eureka.

Hey, Fred, you really should get to adding Huck's blog to your list. It is great - and so is he!!
Neener, neener to that other character - a blot on the fine old Anonymous name.

This is typical middle-aged Humboldt ex-hippie's way to tell you to f* yourself and go to H*. "Eat trans-fats! you no-good greasy burger consumer"!

Speaking of burgers, I sure wish that Inn N Out would build a place in Eureka. I would vote for the candidate that promised to woo Inn N Out. I'll bet the Arkleys could do it. A big Inn N Out on the balloon tract. That would sure put the land to good use.
