Like Wikipedia?
Then you might like this: Someone started a Humbolpedia, supposedly a Wikipedia but just dealing with Humboldt County.
Not much there yet. But, it's just like Wikipedia and takes submissions from everybody so have at it. When I get some time, I'll submit something. Let's just hope the nutcases in the Humboldt blogosphere don't screw it up.
Kudos to Bob Morse and Humguide for the heads up on this new site.

Humboldtpedia won't disclose its owners, therefore it is not trustworthy. At least with Wikipedia the rules are clear, the rulers are known and appeals are possible. With this other pedia, how can we trust them when we don't know their names?

I am looking at humblepedia, and it looks like something that maybe even a fan of The Plazoid had a hand in...did you notice that the Jones v Los Angeles decision was right on the main page? And under "local blogs," theplazoid.blogspot.com is the ONLY one listed!
I have no idea who did this, and as far as i know, nobody that i know had anything to do with it, so i am surprised, and wondering. I find it hard to believe that theplazoid blog is the only humboldt blog that the creator(s) of humblepedia could find. If i was making humblepedia, I would of course have included your blog and Cpt. Buhne at least. Maybe you can just add your link right to the list?

But I had another reason for posting on your blog, and that is that somebody (or something) is posting using the id "plazoid" and has made a blogspot meant to mock The Plazoid blogspot. So I just wanted to let you know that it is not me, and hey, why don't you come on over to The Plazoid blog and toss your two cents in somoe time.

Gee. I wonder how long till the site shows a blatenmt political agenda? Wikipedia does a relatively good job of being unbiased but how will this Humboldtpedia treat subjects like Rob Arkley? Salzman? Gallegos? HSU? Nick Bravo? Etc....?

I kind of figured that and mentioned such in a thread on Eric's blog a while back.
I'd suggest making mention of it on your blog and perhaps include some examples of the phony posts. That would give people an idea of which comments are the phony ones.

I have no political agenda, I am just a college kid who thought it would be cool if we had info like the Davis Wiki. ie. cool trees, nice beaches, ice cream flavors, good coffee shops.

After reading the posts a little further I would like to add that it is very important to me that Humbolpedia stay completely unbiased in anyway.
It should stay a tool for helping. If anyone finds that it is leaning one way or the other, you are all free to edit to your liking. Thats the power of Wiki's.
I hope you all have fun at the site, thats what it's all about anyway.
