Eureka's Traffic Safety Action Plan

The Times- Standard has a guest opinion this morning regarding Eureka's traffic safety problems. It includes a link to view the Transportation Safety Action Plan online and some information on how to make comments on it.

I've wondered for some time if we're trying too hard to make streets safe. Maybe that's part of the problem? Might people walk, ride and drive safer if they feel more at risk?

Might people avoid walking or riding bikes if they don't feel safe?

Here in McKinleyville, it's a resounding yes. It's not a pedestrian town. Not a bike town. Not a horse town (gasp!). It's a car town by the county's design.

Not doing everything possible to make roads safer ends up severely limiting how those roads are used.

Answer - why don't we just do away with the police and all law and let everyone just do whatever they want and how they want and we call all live safer more productive lives?
